Default Different grill shape and size?

Does anyone here know if it is true that the grilles from 95-96 are different shape and size from 97 on?

Yes they are a different shape. 97 and on have a wider chrome ring.

The 95's black plastic fins are "recessed" in the chrome opening, whereas the later ones (like mine) have the fins more-or-less flush with the surface of the chrome ring (which I think looks better). Not sure if the chrome ring itself is wider, but I suppose it could easily be...

The reason I asked, I went to the junkyard and was looking for some plastic parts, such as window switch trims, headlight switch, grill pieces etc. There were 3 tis, a 98, a 97 and a 96 only one of them has a grille. My left one (driver side) broke, somebody backed into my car.

If the 98 at the bone yard has a grill, I believe it will fit the 97.

The 95 is definately different than your 97; not sure about the 96. I would expect it depended on the month. BUT, if the grill looks like yours (flush with the chrome rather than recessed as described in my post above) I believe it will fit.

Good luck, and the dealer is always hapy to get you parts... BMWCCA discount!!!
