Default Where does this bit go?

Hey all,

Found this piece of trim loose in the engine bay just wedged behind the right hand headlight. Obviously some mechanic decided he couldn't be bothered to put it all back together.

Anyway i've looked everywhere around that area and can't find where its meant to attach to.

Its part #23 http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E3...trim/air_duct/

Any ideas?

That kind of looks like the cover which goes over the fuel filter under the car.

So i was probably looking in all the wrong places then, i assumed it was going to be under the bonnet somewhere considering where i found it.

Lets hope it doesn't rain tomorrow then i can get underneath and have a look around the filter.

Cheers

i like 90% sure that is a air deflector that goes in u front bumper, maybe to the side of where the fog lamp goes, i thinks it's to deflect air to the brakes.....maybe?

Well theres the 2 air ducts that are already on the car (#17 on the link) that are for the brake cooling, but it is possible that its from that area somewhere as most of the right side trim was held together with cable ties.....

Take a look at this diagram. It shows that part better:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&fg=75&hl=86

Now that I look at it... 19 is the fuel filter cover.
Realoem shows this is a part for e36 coupes, not ti's, at least in the USA.

Thanks again Dave,

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...72&hg=51&fg=75

Shows it on a european model 318ti and its the same as the diagrams you found. It obviously goes around the right hand air duct trim somewhere.

Going to have to jack the car up and have a proper look, haven't had any luck crawling on my back and peering up.

Yeah, I think that's the plastic piece just aft of the fuel filter on the driver side. If you look under your driver door, it should be just inside of the side skirt. There's a channel there that the "hooks" should fit up into.
