All were relatively cheap DIY fixes. I've had my car since 97,000 miles and the ONE time it failed to start, it just was a bad battery. It did start, but it was a bit difficult. A new battery brought it back to perfect. | | | 09-12-2007, 11:28 PM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | just rolled over 200,000 KM's ... power steering pump, driver side window clips breaking, throwout bearing (tranny) which i left go so long i cracked the forks clear off my pressure plate... uhmmmm valve cover gasket and i think thats it... regular maintenence items... __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 09-17-2007, 05:08 PM | #20 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: CA Posts: 12 | I think it's 154,300 (don't know exactly, it's in the shop right now getting it's crankcase vent valve replaced) | | | 09-23-2007, 12:58 AM | #21 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: dorchester Posts: 700 | Nooooo u didnt pay someone labour to change that!! I've only had it for a month and bought it with a couple of issues, then found a few more. With knowledge of a worn left front wheel bearing and an "exhausted" muffler, bought the car and drove it home. Actually had to have the muffler AND a large portion of the exhaust line replaced. Had the wheel bearing/hub replaced. That's where it was found at least one of the ball joints were toast. And , with the vibration from the wheel bearing gone, the loose ball joint was really noticeable... especially since the inside rim was bent (wtf) causing a flat spot. (really made a slight right turn at speed a joy!) So - found a matching wheel from a salvage yard in PA ($95 shipped) A chain tire store wanted $350+ to replace the ball joints... on one side! Seemed a bit high. Especially when info found here was that the tie rods and control arms had the ball joints already installed and it is simpler and cheaper to replace the assembly rather than the individual joints. So - ordered the tie rods and control arms for BOTH sides for less than $300. Replaced the really bad tie rod in two hours in my driveway and will finish the rest shortly. *BTW - Instructions on this forum made the front end work simple. Attention to detail and it is a fairly easy DIY. Once the wheel arrives, I'll have the tire transferred. So, in short. Muffler, Front wheel bearing, ball joints. *I believe the left front issues may be the result of a "minor front end damage" shown on the CARFAX report. | | | 02-08-2008, 05:40 AM | #26 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: SFO,Ca. Replace motor after cracked head at 140K. Motor has around 80-90K on it now. Replaced driver side window parts and starter. Other then that, only minor things, besides being rear ended 3 times. | | | 02-08-2008, 10:05 PM | #28 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | 124k, I have the full service record and the window has never fallen off the track since the car was new, which means it will probably happen to me | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
