My rear rotors had uneven wear lines, and the pads too, so I decided to change them. Installed hps pads and rebuild calipers and bavauto drilled rotors. Painted the rotors black so it can prevent from rusting. Two days after install I see rusty lines over the rotor, which means the pads don't have fool grip, and this will mess up the rotors overtime. The same thing as before. If anybody had the same problem, please let me know what's going on. May be the tech didn't install them properly? Everything is brand new! How is that possible ? This are pictures from the old ones. | | | 01-19-2012, 03:56 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Did you buy the proper pad for the ti? Maybe you need to bleed the lines some more after replacing the calipers. Did you bed the pads correctly? __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 01-19-2012, 04:35 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | fool grip? The pads don't sweep the whole rotor. I also would be surprised of the tech actually bedded the pads at all. Not sure if anyone else had the same results, but I think the stock pads worked better than the HPS. Nowhere near the amount of dust, but the initial bite seems less than the stock pads. __________________ No more ti. | | | 01-19-2012, 04:39 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Honestly, I've never read anything good about HPS pads. I have axxis ultimates and can't stand them. When cold they have no initial bite, not good for a dd. If you warm them up they perform nicely though. I've heard good things about PFC Z rated and Stoptech street performance pads, I plan to switch to one of them this year. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 01-19-2012, 11:48 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Des Plaines, IL Posts: 147 | We bled the whole system, and replaced everything at the back. I spend two days researching for the best setup. A lot of people over here use the hps, and I thought its good choice. I think is because I painted the rotor black and some paint might be left on the pads. I feel like crab. Will post some pics, looks terrible Last edited by pi4ovete_84; 01-20-2012 at 12:45 AM. | | | 01-20-2012, 01:22 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Go out and bed the pads according to the hawk procedure, I believe that will help. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 01-20-2012, 01:58 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | did you paint the entire rotor? I don't know if that really could cause the problem you've been having but I really wouldn't have recommended doing that | | | 01-20-2012, 02:04 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | Paint shouldn't have done much to it. I usually make a cardboard cutout to spray the hub of the rotor and keep the paint off the swept surface, at the minimum I take some sandpaper and clean the paint off the swept area.....I'd bed the pads in as per the instructions and see if that helps. What brand are the rotors? __________________ No more ti. | | | 01-20-2012, 02:18 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | He mentioned bavauto drilled rotors in the first post, which are actually on sale for $50. Wonder if they are cast that way or drilled after the fact? __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 01-20-2012, 04:48 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Des Plaines, IL Posts: 147 | Yes the rotors are on sale from bavauto. Do you guys think that the pads are not positioned right? I'll call the guy tomorrow and take them out to see whats up. I didnt know every brand has different way to install. The car stops alot better though. Im thinking to upgrade the front with 330 calipers and rotors. I read somewere that we cant do much about, the rear? | | | 01-20-2012, 12:43 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Did you go out and bed the pads yet? That's almost impossible to do. It's probably a bedding issue. __________________ No more ti. | | | 01-21-2012, 02:37 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Des Plaines, IL Posts: 147 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri Did you go out and bed the pads yet? | Thank you for that info, and thank everybody for help. My procedure -- if the pads do not have directions -- is a few days of easy driving, then a series of hard stops, getting hot enough to start to fade. | | | 02-14-2012, 12:47 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Hawk procedure in post #11. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
