Battery1...battery is in the right side of the trunk. he has a 318i...so its not a hatch. Battery2...Grounded immediately to chassis Battery3...Power cable is covered with the black cover and goes along under the rear seats and down under the carpet in the rear door and seat area. Battery4...Shows hole in rear seat. Next to rear fender of the back doors and seats. Battery5...Shows power cable going into carpet. This is the rear door of his 4 door sedan. Battery6...Shows the hole from inside the trunk. The cable goes along the rear fender/wheel well and into the rear seats. __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 12-23-2005, 06:12 PM | #20 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | cool ... __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 12-23-2005, 09:08 PM | #21 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Now that the tire is gone, there's plenty of room! I was going to use parts from a US six-cylinder (probably an E36 sedan) and graft it in. Another idea I had was to use a pair of 6-volt Optimas (very small, well, 1/2 the size of a normal optima!), one on each side and have no cutting, fully returnable to stock. I honestly have not done any real work to my ti in almost two years. It's ready for body work (to happen over the winter) and to get some paint touched-up (mainly the chipped nose). I dug a little deeper and found out that pic is from a e39 Touring. That location is really tempting me to retrofit it. I suppose there is a special piece of carpet to cover it? I have seen the subwwoofer in the ETK, but never knew if it was real. too cool. Also looks like you give up the spare to have the battery there, or atleast the tools/jack? __________________ '95 330ti CS w/sr delete, S50USB30, cams, 24# inj, Conforti SW, Euro HFM, Samco Silicone Intake Boot, BBTB, Euro Oil Cooler, JTD CAI Duct, RE DMS exhaust, RE Tranny mounts, CF Valve Cover, LTW flywheel/Kevlar sprung hub clutch, RE SSK, 3.46 Finned LSD (M6) , M3 tranny, Brembos, RE Wheel Studs, SS brake/clutch lines, CF interior, Rear Headrest retrofit, Tilt Steering retrofit, 13.5 lb DynaBatt in rear, LED interior/footwell lights, ZKW HID, Headlight Aim Control, Rear fog light w/cluster indicator, CF 3 Aux gauge pod, BMW Traffic Pro/Alpine MP3-CD Changer, Staggered LTW wheels, '95 M3 steering rack, VIS CF Hood, M3 LTW Strut Bar, TCK SA coilovers, Red LTW Motorsport Seatbelts, OEM Fire Extinguisher, Z8 Starter button, Auto dim rear view mirror w/ Homelink/Compass, PDC, Rear Sun Shade, Euro Gauge Cluster w/oil temp/shift light , Headlight Washers, "Motorsport" Door Handles, CF Grills, French ZKW Fogs, Euro dash bins, Power Lumbar Support is next, Coming e39 M5 interior light, Bimmer Magazine 8/2007 | | | 12-27-2005, 04:27 AM | #28 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Nebraska Posts: 136 | Clex2- I hate to burst your bubble on this one, but that is not my car. I have just been doing research to try and figure out the configuration of the battery on the 323ti. I found that picture on another enthusiasts website: http://isurfer.mummelnase.de/HP/Kofferraum.htm I am a US member and have a '95 318ti Club Sport like yours (at this point minus the m3 engine, but that will be changing soon!) I looked at the ETK and it indeed shows the subwoofer for the 323ti. I attached a pic of the part info. I made contact with a 323ti owner today who said he would take pictures of his trunk to show me the configuration of the battery. I expect to get them tomorrow or Wednesday. I can also ask him if he has the subwoofer installed. | | | 12-27-2005, 04:40 AM | #29 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2003 Location: Walnut Creek, CA Posts: 642 | The bubble is not completely bursted (sp?) at this point. It is too bad that's not your car, but I'm gald to hear you have a potential source of pics/info. By the looks of the pictures, he ditched the factory subwoofer for a bigger DIY job. All I ask, sprnova, is that you squeeze this guy for as much info as you can get. This post has been up for a while and you're the first with any kind of lead. I bet we would have to cut out the rear floor pan and weld in a new one and like I hypothesized, ditch the sapre for the M-mobility kit or something. I would rather have that big battery in my car than the little racing battery I have, just for the peace of mind. __________________ '95 330ti CS w/sr delete, S50USB30, cams, 24# inj, Conforti SW, Euro HFM, Samco Silicone Intake Boot, BBTB, Euro Oil Cooler, JTD CAI Duct, RE DMS exhaust, RE Tranny mounts, CF Valve Cover, LTW flywheel/Kevlar sprung hub clutch, RE SSK, 3.46 Finned LSD (M6) , M3 tranny, Brembos, RE Wheel Studs, SS brake/clutch lines, CF interior, Rear Headrest retrofit, Tilt Steering retrofit, 13.5 lb DynaBatt in rear, LED interior/footwell lights, ZKW HID, Headlight Aim Control, Rear fog light w/cluster indicator, CF 3 Aux gauge pod, BMW Traffic Pro/Alpine MP3-CD Changer, Staggered LTW wheels, '95 M3 steering rack, VIS CF Hood, M3 LTW Strut Bar, TCK SA coilovers, Red LTW Motorsport Seatbelts, OEM Fire Extinguisher, Z8 Starter button, Auto dim rear view mirror w/ Homelink/Compass, PDC, Rear Sun Shade, Euro Gauge Cluster w/oil temp/shift light , Headlight Washers, "Motorsport" Door Handles, CF Grills, French ZKW Fogs, Euro dash bins, Power Lumbar Support is next, Coming e39 M5 interior light, Bimmer Magazine 8/2007 | | | 12-27-2005, 05:01 AM | #30 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Nebraska Posts: 136 | Yes I plan to try and get as much info out of him as I can. So far he seems like a nice guy. He was happy to hear from a US compact owner. He told me that his car does have the spare hanging underneath the car just as ours does. I just went out to my car and removed the spare and took out the plastic "suport for car tools" insert that sits in the floor of the trunk. I really dont see how you could get a battery in there, even if you were using the 323ti equivalent of the USA plastic insert. There is just not enough depth. Based on that I looked in the ETK and compared part #'s for the trunk floor. The 323ti trunk floor has a different part #. That does not necessarily mean the part is different, but my guess would be that it is. I think it would have to be deeper so the battery would not stick up too high. Or I could be completely wrong and the 323ti may just use a half-height battery. But I cannot say I have seen BMW use one of those. I also took a quick look in the ETK at the part #'s that makeup the spare wheel housing, etc. They all looked the same for both the 323ti and 318ti. So I dont know. I thought there might be some factory holes in the trunk where you could just screw the 323ti battery hold-down brackets into but I do not see any in my car. But then again, maybe the plastic storage unit that sits in the trunk floor has the proper areas to screw the battery hold-down brackets into. Update: While I was typing this I decided to go out to my car and measure the distance from the bare trunk bottom the to top of the trunk floor. It is approx. 6". I then measured the height of my factory BMW battery. It is 6 3/4". So maybe a battery could fit in there as things are. But you would also have to take into account how much height the plastic insert that the battery sits in would add. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
