About a year ago I finally got my m52tu and manual transmission swap done on my 96 ti. I have great acceleration but top speed is lacking. I'm looking for suggestions on what I need to change ad far as transmission and rear differential options. I currently have an manual trans out of a 95 model ti and the original 4.44 gears that came factory I've had the dme tuned and had the rev limitor raised and speed limitor deleted. Any suggestions you guys may have would be greatly suggested. | | | 02-18-2020, 05:20 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: San antonio, tx Posts: 135 | Hello....you need to swap a differential from a manual trans car....it has a 3.45 gearing, so it will solve your problem. At 60 mph, the engine rpm would probably be around 3400, so you can easily cruise at higher speeds. One was just sold on this website, so they come up occasionally. Or search other sites like ebay. There is a bmw parts shop near philadelphia called prussian motors...they have a website with their inventory and would likely have one. I think there are other shops in Virginia as well....should not be too difficult to track down. Good luck! | | | 02-18-2020, 07:17 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2020 Location: Roanoke Virginia Posts: 3 | Thank you for your input! | | | 02-23-2020, 02:03 AM | #4 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | What he said. Transmissions all have nearly identical ratios. Even the E46 six speed is identical for the first five speeds to the E36. Rear diff is where it’s at. You probably want to go to a mid size case while you’re changing it for durability. Plenty of posts on that here because it gets complicated with parts swapping. | | | 02-23-2020, 02:25 AM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2020 Location: Roanoke Virginia Posts: 3 | Ok cool, thank you! | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
