Are you trying to remove the trim around the shifter or the trim around the cupholders/e-Brake?

To remove the trim around the cupholders and ebrake. You need to pop out the ashtray in the rear, and remove the screw. There is another screw under the cup holders (being held in by two of those crappy plastic screws) under the rubber plug. Then you have to remove the hazard switch to get to the last screw holding the trim in place. (Dont forget to remove the ebrake boot). As for the shifter trim, got me.

Part #1 shows the screw locations for that piece. You can remove the shifter leather boot by removing the shift knob (firm pull - don't smack yourself in the head) squeezing the bottom sides of the boot and pulling up. It comes out easily.

You have a couple screws in the ashtray, one under the warning light button (be careful to not break that switch), and one that attaches it to the dashboard on either side of the center dash hvac/radio controls.

thanks for the responses guys,

the reason was i today

Changed my Cali-top to a new one

Relocated the sunroof switch to the armrest console

Set up my GPS charger to come out of my airvent,...

--

IŽll take some pics tomorrow, but i was just freakin out on how to get the armrest loose so i could remove the panel to do the cutting work.

i found out that the ,.

Rear ashtray out

remove plugs and rubber wheels on armrest hinge

remove armrest

dislocate 2 pegs parallel to each other just infront of the armrest hinge

lift forward and up

the center tray should now be released

--------

the removal of the cali top was a bit of a chore, but not half as bad as i thought it would be.'

i had the old one out in 1.5 hours, starting with a fully lined interior.

ill get the pics on the how to up tomorrow. there are a good few

anyway

the switch relocate is fantastic, so easy i dont know why bmw didnt do it

i just traced 4 wires (taken form a stripped internet cable) from the original switch, and fed it down the a pillar, under the steering wheel and through the 2 console pannels.

i cut the switch hole with a dremmel, god i love that thing!

then soldered the wires directly to the pins (temporary until i get the correct connecter)

i have full light and one touch function now on the #2 switch also

the gps add on was because i was sick of swinging cables and fishing around in the glovebox for the charger every time

i always have the gps on the left of the wheel, so its in my field of vision, and away from the pass. airbag (it also looks 1000 times tidier, and im a bit like that..)

so now ive doubled the 12v plug and hidden it under the gearshift console, then traced the wire under the wheel again.

I removed the mini-vent (one for the side windows) with my magic cake spatuler, the best bmwtool in the world

and dremmelŽd the vent , carefully

then using the dremmel again, i drilled a small enough hole in the actual airvent so i could get the cable in and through the vent i had just addapted.

now, i can slide the extra 7 cms of cable i need when the Garmin, and let it slip back flush with the vent when i dont qwality

I will get pics done tomorrow

actually jess (assuming that's your name), your avatar does a pretty good job of that, lol

i was just taking apart my interior today to install my HD radio and CD43 and happened upon this thread and then noticed he hadn't posted up any pics. i'd like to see how and where mallard routed things as it's always interesting to see how people do their various mods.

heya lads , sorry i havnt written it up yet, but i will

just need to get christmas out the way first

but a qwik run down of what i did

removed center console and armrest

took an old telephone cable (the same type as is used for internet hookups)

split the cable, and separated 4 wires

-----

then using a dremel, cut the console to house the switch frame

I routed the wires whilst doin the roof swap, so it wasnt that big a deal, but i routed them down the A- pillar

then inside under the dash, and around to the trans- tunnel

then soldered the wires up to the correct points on the new switch

couple follow-up questions

did you add an additional switch for the cali top (keeping the original in place)? you said you gained one-touch, did you use a window switch instead of the cali-top switch? i was thinking of relocating the stock cali top switch to the center console.

how did you add to the 12v plug under the console? did you splice in some additional connectors?

i'm still trying to figure out where to route my ipod cable because i'd eventually like to use it with an iphone which i'll use for nav as well as audio (and even phone calls!).

more planning to do!

the original is stil in place

the 1 touch option is a function on the motor i think, but the switch is needed otherwise the motor doesnt get the correct command

the charger for the gps is hooked into a second 12v plug inside the gearshift surround

the wire is traced up to vent and then fedd in through a hole i made with a dremmel

the grill to the airvent was also adjusted to allow the plug to sit flat
