I think once again the ti is the black sheep of the group and did not get a flashlight. | | | 08-31-2006, 01:28 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | No. I bought the flashlight that fits other models, and was going to modify my glove box to make it work. Our glove box doesn't have the area on the left to mount the power socket. Out of curiosity, how hard would it be to physically retrofit an E39 or E46 dome light in a 'ti? I have almost finished putting an E39 light in my 318is -- with a few amusing refinements. | | | 09-06-2006, 10:12 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | You want the LED map lights, huh? Not too difficult I imagine. The stocker pulls out (rearward first, tilting from the front) and the connector is rear of the opening. Match up wire colors, dremel to fit. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 09-06-2006, 10:34 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | Quote: Originally Posted by aceyx You want the LED map lights, huh? | Plus ambient lights and night lights! Match up wire colors, dremel to fit. | It proved to be a little more complicated. The E36 dome light has a row of high-current, rocker switches, whereas the center switch on the E39/E46 dome light is a low current momentary. I added one of my mini controllers between it and the E36 ZKE to supply the missing logic that toggles the interior lights on and off. It also turns them off after 15 minutes. (You can leave a stock, E36 dome light on until it flattens the battery.) I am pretty happy how it came out and I only once had a neighbor call the Polizei on me while I was testing it. The police were very nice. I can post some pictures if people are interested, as a new thread as I don't wish to hijack this one. | | | 09-07-2006, 07:31 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Bristol UK Posts: 91 | I got one on the E46 ti - pretty damn neat & useful i was considering trying an install on my E36 - but I doubt it would work as well & i'd probably end up draining my battery __________________ 1997 Moreagrun | | | 09-07-2006, 08:10 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | If you can get an E39/E46 dome light to physically fit and can run a couple wires down from the dome light, I have sorted out the electronics, including timeouts to prevent draining the battery. | | | 09-07-2006, 09:12 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Cincinnati Posts: 890 | I always keep a torch in the boot mate.. __________________ SOLD!!! 1999 332ti //M Sport Titanium Silver M3 S52 3.2 I-6 Engine, M3 Clutch w/ ti Getrag Trans, Z3 3.15 LSD medium case diff and half shafts, OEM Hatch Spoiler, Eurosport HP Underdrive Pulleys, FDM, 17" DS1 rims, M3 Front Struts & Springs, M3 Instrument Cluster, 3-spoke //M steering wheel with tri-color stitching, SSK, CCFL Angels in Depo projectors with 5k HIDs | | | 09-08-2006, 04:50 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: England, UK Posts: 1,288 | I've got one! led too. purchased from tescos for £5.... take 2 x AA batteries __________________ 1995 BMW 316i Cosmos Black Mods: Magnex Cat-Back Exhaust Smoked Corner Lights + Repeators M3 17" Wheels De-Baffled Air Box AC HandBrake Handle and Gear Knob DEPO Euro Epsiloids + Predator Chronium Rings Chrome Interior bits IE Poly-Urethane RSFMs Kenwood Power Series Audio Powder Coated e36 325 Front Callipers Sports Seats | | | 09-15-2006, 12:15 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: ipswich Posts: 656 | just found out bmw do a little rechargable one that u can plug into your lighter | | | 09-15-2006, 05:39 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2003 Location: Walnut Creek, CA Posts: 642 | Quote: Originally Posted by John Firestone If you can get an E39/E46 dome light to physically fit and can run a couple wires down from the dome light, I have sorted out the electronics, including timeouts to prevent draining the battery. | John, I'm interested in the schematics and "controller". Can you post them? Also, I have installed the BMW flashlight in the passenger side trunk bin. Like L8 said, there is physically no room in the glove box. These torches are notorious for not holding a charge after a few years and I believe it has do to with the constant over charging of the Ni-Cad battery that occurs everytime you drive the car. My solution was to install a peak charging circuit that detects when the battery needs to be charged and stops when peak charge has occured. So far the battery has been keeping a good charge. __________________ '95 330ti CS w/sr delete, S50USB30, cams, 24# inj, Conforti SW, Euro HFM, Samco Silicone Intake Boot, BBTB, Euro Oil Cooler, JTD CAI Duct, RE DMS exhaust, RE Tranny mounts, CF Valve Cover, LTW flywheel/Kevlar sprung hub clutch, RE SSK, 3.46 Finned LSD (M6) , M3 tranny, Brembos, RE Wheel Studs, SS brake/clutch lines, CF interior, Rear Headrest retrofit, Tilt Steering retrofit, 13.5 lb DynaBatt in rear, LED interior/footwell lights, ZKW HID, Headlight Aim Control, Rear fog light w/cluster indicator, CF 3 Aux gauge pod, BMW Traffic Pro/Alpine MP3-CD Changer, Staggered LTW wheels, '95 M3 steering rack, VIS CF Hood, M3 LTW Strut Bar, TCK SA coilovers, Red LTW Motorsport Seatbelts, OEM Fire Extinguisher, Z8 Starter button, Auto dim rear view mirror w/ Homelink/Compass, PDC, Rear Sun Shade, Euro Gauge Cluster w/oil temp/shift light , Headlight Washers, "Motorsport" Door Handles, CF Grills, French ZKW Fogs, Euro dash bins, Power Lumbar Support is next, Coming e39 M5 interior light, Bimmer Magazine 8/2007 | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
