OK, I like my rusted out magnaflow exhaust. Sounds great at the track at WOT, but driving on city streets it's obnoxious. It sounds like a rusted out muffler. Go figure. Any suggestions? I will probably get another magnaflow if I can find the part number. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 04-09-2010, 03:47 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Merritt Island, FL Posts: 351 | I have a Magnaflow I bought from ebay. It is stainless, but it is not a high grade stainless so I expect that it will eventually rust too. The tubes are 419 stainless and so is the welding wire that I used, so it will probably outlast the muffler, but I'm not too concerned. I do love the way these sound. I will say that around 2500 rpm it does resonate in the cabin and it is loud, but above 3K rpm's it quiets down and sounds good. Driving through my neighborhood I can set off car alarms with it __________________ Alpine Weiß 1995 318ti M50tu mostly stock, chip'd 413, AFE Intake. e36 M3 front brakes, e30 M3 rear calipers. e28 3.25 LSD + e30 axles. I'd do it on purpose when I found an annoying alarm. Do you recall the model number? Does that one have a 3" tip? Mine does. It's too ricey for my taste. I'd like to find dual tips. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 04-09-2010, 11:46 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | Steve, do you have a resonator on your exhaust? From the sounds of it your resonator could be bad? __________________ Greg M42 Club member 186 WTB: HELLROT RED CLUB SPORT 95 ti sold but staying in the family. | | | 04-10-2010, 12:27 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by ChItalian1027 Steve, do you have a resonator on your exhaust? It's been on the car for probably more than 8 years. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 04-10-2010, 01:08 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti I'd have to take a look. My car does not sound anything like a ricer. __________________ Alpine Weiß 1995 318ti M50tu mostly stock, chip'd 413, AFE Intake. e36 M3 front brakes, e30 M3 rear calipers. e28 3.25 LSD + e30 axles. Looking at the description, Muffler, XL 3 Chamber, 3 in. Inlet/Dual 2.50 in. Outlet, Stainless Steel, Natural, Each http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-13288/ Did you install it backwards? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-13-2010, 03:20 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Merritt Island, FL Posts: 351 | Sweet! According to the muffler description it can be used either way (2-to-1 or 1-to-2). I suppose in the traditional sense as you may see it on a dual exhaust 4 cylinder Honda (splitting from 1-to-2) then yea it's backwards. __________________ Alpine Weiß 1995 318ti M50tu mostly stock, chip'd 413, AFE Intake. e36 M3 front brakes, e30 M3 rear calipers. e28 3.25 LSD + e30 axles. I'm going away so I should have it when I get back. I brought the car to a shop today to be sure he would work on it. Sure, no problem. Just pick up the exhaust and bring it in. Only thing is I have a cat on the way out. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-21-2010, 04:12 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Finally got a chance to have the muffler installed. Wholly friggin cow, it's friggin loud. I thought my old Dynomax was loud because of the holes. Does this thing quiet down over time? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
