Default heating troubles

Hi,i have had no heat for a long time. it does not get hot when the temperature control knob is turned to the red area of the dial. does anyone know what the problem would be...what should i check first to find out whats going on with the heater. also i have had the air conditioner system replaced last year and it doesnt seem to be working that great. i think i have read that if there are problems with the heater that the air conditioner will not hold the coolant for very long...does anyone know if this is true?...please help!

is your thermostat at 'high noon'? if so, your lever probably fell off the control. check the knolwedge base for a write up on that.
