I'm in Ft. Worth for the week and only in Killeen for the weekend(2 1/2 hours) I started the job took everything apart except the housing itself. The night caught me, so I decided to replace the gasket the next weekend. I put everything in a bag bolts, nuts, clamps, etc. and put everything away. Now I've replace the gasket and the whole bush, put all that back together. But there were bolts missing from the bag. The altenator bracket bolts(all of them) and some other stuff that doesnt look right. There was someone of questionable integrity that just moved out so who knows. I replaced the four bolts and washers for the bracket. now Im trying to put the pullys and what not back on. But there's two holes surrounding the top altenator bolt. I know one is for the idler pully, whats the other? because there are no more bolts after the pully one.. And the pully came apart. how does it go back together? | | | 01-24-2010, 02:04 AM | #49 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | The pulley mounts onto the alternator bracket. There is an unused mounting hole on the alternator itself. At least that is how it is on my 1996 M44 318ti. You should be able to tell the hole on the bracket has shiny threads and the one on the alternator is oxidized. I hope this helps. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 01-24-2010, 02:29 AM | #50 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Killeen, Tx Posts: 22 | Well thats retarded to have an empty hole. Im assuming this is how the pully goes back together. And what happens if you overtighten the bolts? other than risk cracking the housing. | | | 01-24-2010, 02:32 AM | #51 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by trunxgp1224 And what happens if you overtighten the bolts? other than risk cracking the housing. | the bearing will go bad quickly because there's too much pressure on it | | | 01-24-2010, 02:40 AM | #52 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Killeen, Tx Posts: 22 | Quote: Originally Posted by tiFreak the bearing will go bad quickly because there's too much pressure on it | Well that sucks. I imagine you have things together by now. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 01-27-2010, 05:33 AM | #54 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | Quote: Originally Posted by 6speed ti I used the BLU Permatex stuff. If you have to glue a oil contact gasket that's paper, copper coat or permatex form-a-gasket are better choices, they get painted on THIN, just enough to color the gasket. none should squeeze out. They are adhesive so they will make the gasket stick very tight and require scraping when removed. And mine was leaking around the O-rings, not the gasket as well. I decided not to use the silicone and went with Permatex Hylomar I had from another project. Hylomar is a gasket "dressing" rather than a gasket "maker" and never hardens up. But, yeah, the rule is whatever you see squeezing out is also squeezing in. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
