I wouldn't recommend doing anthing as it may throw off the automatic transmission's computer. Manual 318ti's use a dual mass flywheel which is really heavy. The auto s use a single mass flywheel which doesn't look heavy in this diagram: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...52&hg=11&fg=20 Compare that to the dual mass flywheel: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&hg=11&fg=20 I'd use the money towards something else. | | | 05-13-2009, 03:32 AM | #8 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 318ti NY well i hope they do that or a shift kit or something lol | Seriously? Not the same as a shift kit, but I guess it's along the same lines. OP, At this point you're better off getting a performance chip, might give you 5hp, but personally i'd invest the money in something that you will actually notice such as suspension and/or GOOD tires. Afterall, t's a 4 banger automatic, unless you do a tranny swap and/or install a supercharger, the car is what it is. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Ti's are fun little cars, but at some point you either gotta drop a ton of money or just appreciate it for what it is | | | 05-13-2009, 06:15 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Auto flywheels are basically used only to start the engine, thats it. They also weigh in around 5-7lbs. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 05-13-2009, 02:16 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | all an automatic chip will do is increase your shift line pressure. This is what controls how fast and hard the transmission shifts. Its really not worth it and will decrease the life of your transmission. __________________ -Jeff | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
