My bro took it out and when he came back home he tired to turn it off but the key just popped out. The car is still on and so are the lights. i took out the power cable from the battery and it's still running. Do any of you guys know how to turn it off or what could be wrong? I have an auto Ti if that helps. Edit: My bro managed to turn it off by taking a fuse out. So any ideas of what went wrong with the Ti, should i take it to the dealer? | | | 04-01-2008, 04:42 AM | #2 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | does the key spin in the cylinder now? i remember reading a number of posts where the key cylinder gets messed up (typically causing a condition where it can't be started from what i recall). http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthrea...ght=lock+spins http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthrea...ght=lock+spins __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 04-01-2008, 04:50 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | well right now its dark so i can do nothing about it now. but it would just spin in the cylinder i drove the car around to see if my bro did something but nah the key just pops out. Yea i read one of those post i guess i might have to take it to the dealer or get a mechanic to check it out or something. This sucks because i start school tomorrow and now i don't know what im gonna do. | | | 04-01-2008, 04:59 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | oh man! if the cylinder spins and will not work correctly...you could be screwed. i have never seen a steering column cylinder spin in that direction...usually it will spin freely when trying to start the vehicle...not when turning it off. you may need a new ignition cylinder. this sucks! let me know if you want to go to the dealership on this one Dave...i'll call my Service advisor. __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 04-01-2008, 05:12 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | yea i know about it spinning when turning it on. But I have never had this issue and i have been reading the links eric put up and it isn't good news. by the looks of it i won't be able to turn it on tomorrow. So i can't take it to the dealer. I'm going to see if my dad can get a mechanic to check it out. Now i wont hear the end of it from my dad about how trucks are better than cars. F*ck this hasn't been my day, my orientation was crap, i feel like im getting a cold, the Ti is dead, and by the looks of it i might have to take the bus tomorrow which means i gotta wake up earlier to go to school, not my day at all I gonna take a shot of tequila to calm down talk to you guys tomorrow. | | | 04-01-2008, 05:25 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 1,305 | **** dave, good luck man.
