Default 6 cyl exhaust?

Both of the swapped ti's I have here are running the stock M3 exhaust system to about the rear sub frame cross member then it turns into a custom deal. To be honest it is not my favorite set up.

What are the alternatives?

I know I can do headers and the active track pipe but after that what? Seems like there should be a better alternative with the ever growing number of swaps. Crush bends and booger welds give me nightmares.

SS took the 323ti stuff off the market from what I hear.

Most people run a modified OEM or aftermarket M3 catback with an M3 midpipe/cats. Otherwise I've seen a few people run M3 midpipes and a freeflowing Ti catback such as Stromung with a Y pipe welded to it. I have an M3 Rogue Engineering DMS catback that I plan on chopping about 8 inches off of and welding the flanges back in place to keep it a bolt-on application. I'll be doing the welds myself with my oxy-acetylene rig, so they should look nice and clean. If I'm not happy with the sound, I might put it up for sale for one of the swapped Ti's out there.

I have m52 headers to a Y pipe and thats it for right now...it ends a foot after the transmission.

I am doing full 3" all the way back, no cat, just a muffler.

Not a bad idea at all!

I am currently running the full M3 exhaust. The M3 header and mid pipe/cats bolt in with no issues. The problem is the mufler/tail pipe.

I cut mine and than had close fitting pipe expanded to make a slip fit over the cut ends of the pipe and then customized some clamps to hold it together. This allwed me to rotate it slightly as needed to clear stuff.

It is still too big, and hits on big bumps, but it is working for now.

The 'accepted' close enough solution is the Supersprint Z3 2.8 muffler which still needs to be modified, but works reasonably well.

Couple that with the 323ti rear diffuser and you are well on your way to a decent looking/sounding/performaing set up with minimal heartache.

If you are racing, I'd just run 2-1/2 all the way from the collectors to the rear of the car, with an X-pipe about a footin front of the sub frame cross member myself.

OBDII headers, OBDI midpipes with cat delete, 2.5" straight pipe back to the rear subframe, Mcoupe drivers side catback bolted on.

OBDII headers, OBDI midpipes with cat delete, 2.5" straigh pipe back to the rear subframe with 1.9L Supersprint catback bolted on.

OBDII headers, Custom dual 2.25" midpipes, custom true dual "catbacks" with thrush resonators and turbo thrush mufflers.

bloodrunsdry-

OBDI headers, OBDI midpipes, custom fitted catback and magnflow <--i believe.

There are many setups, Mcoupe being the closest to bolton but OEM catbacks are pretty heavy. I love the way mine sounded with all my setups, but the Mcoupe is my favorite because its nice and mellow sounding at idle and sounds very smooth up high. The Supersprint definately sounded sporty but, even being the "highest flowing" catback for the m44 for aftermarket bolt ons, it definately choked off the m50 in the higher rpms compared to both, my duals and my mcoupe catback.

I have videos of each in the exhaust thread created in the exhaust forum.

I have...

M52 headers / Z3 2.8 mid section lengthened about 30cm / Eisenmann back box for the 323ti or z3 2.8.

This works very well for me Not too much customizing needed to get it to fit.

This gave me an idea!

Z3 3.0 SuperSprint stuff with a little bit added on somewhere between the wheels! Only problems I see are the muffler hangars and exactly where the tips exit.

I don't think so either. I am going to have to get under my ti and coupe and do some comparing. It would be awesome if I could just have 2 double flanged pieces made to bolt in between the headers and X pipe to make the Z3 system long enough for the ti with no other mods.

I like the 1/2 M-coupe muffler idea... I always thought you had to use the entire assembly... should have studied realoem better.

eBay here I come!

Problem with that is...

It is single tube, too restrictive I would think.
