I am a detailer so I know a good bit about the chemisty of waxes. I am wondering what sort of waxes you guys use on your BMW's. | | | 04-16-2009, 04:47 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Auburn, WA Posts: 1,814 | 3m __________________ 5/96 318TI Sport BIG TURBO | | | 04-16-2009, 05:44 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | I haven't clayed or waxed my car yet... Definitely looking to do it once it gets nice out though. What wax would you recommend? I usually use the claymagic claybar kit. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 04-16-2009, 12:44 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Roanoke, VA Posts: 18 | Quote: Originally Posted by Jean H.318TI 3m | 3m polish or a 3m wax. I usually use the claymagic claybar kit. | If you are going to clay the car, make sure it is a mild abrasive clay bar unless you are going to be polishing the car to remove the marring. I am not sure how soft or hard the clear coats on 318's are but if they are soft it could prove to be a problem, using a claybar. After you have removed the bonded contaminants (and protection; ie wax or sealant) you definitely want to put some protection back on. I use a product called Dodo Juice. I should also say that I am a reseller of the products, but my being a reseller just backs up what I think of the products. They had not come over to the states (made in England) before I started selling them and everyone who has tried them has always come back for more. If you would like to know my website URL, please PM because I do not want to be accused of spamming. Now that I have told you what I use I will tell you what else is good. If you are going for a carnauba based wax (better looking but less durability) then you can go with Blackfire, raceglaze, zymol, swissvax, P21S, and many more. If you want a sealant (better durability while sacrificing looks) then there are a few out there also; jeff werkstatt, zaino and a few more. I personally use carnaubas because they last about 3 months and thats about the longest I want to wait before I want to start tinkering with the car anyways. Plus, the look carnaubas afford is awesome! | | | 04-16-2009, 11:14 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Auburn, WA Posts: 1,814 | Quote: Originally Posted by Daniel Wendell 3m polish or a 3m wax. But recently, I've been using 1Z Einzett Glanz Wax on my car. Also Zymol Vintage (haha ) I've been meaning to try out a few more waxes but haven't gotten around to getting them (Collinite 845, Dodo juice, Natty Blue etc etc...) -Randy __________________ 97 Jet Black 318ti Sport. I have a sample from a buddy. It is my favorite wax at the moment but Supernatural stacks up really well compared to it at a fraction of the price. If you want some some Dodo PM me and ile give ya my URL, if you havent seen me say it somewhere else. Let me know how you like it after you get it though! I am hugely into what people think of the waxes. Dodo is starting to step away from carnauba waxes at the moment though and going after other items (QD's, shampoos, tools)... but im looking forward to the sealant (whenever it comes out). I tried nattys a while back and its pretty good but doesnt last long AT ALL. | | | 04-17-2009, 04:18 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | Zymol. Its not cheap but its amaaaazing. I had my car sitting outside from September til March, unmoved, in a dirt parking lot... my moldings turned faded grey, my wheels were filthy dirty, but everytime it rained - my car would basically clean itself. I washed it today for the first time and it didn't even really need it. I soaped up and rinsed off, and it looks like I just waxed it again. __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 04-17-2009, 05:25 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: South Central, MN Posts: 1,065 | I used to be a fan of Zaino...now I want to try wolfgang products. __________________ | | | 04-17-2009, 12:39 PM | #11 | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Roanoke, VA Posts: 18 | Quote: Originally Posted by Philly Zymol. For example, I only hand apply my waxes via applicator pad. With applicator pads I am able to apply very precisely to the places that I want it to go. Also, with higher end carnauba waxes the thinner the coat the better therefor you barely want to be able to see the wax on the panel as it is left to haze. Along with the fact that the waxes are expensive and you dont want to waste them makes you apply very thinly and precisely. I was in florida and forgot to bring one of my waxes and I didnt want to buy anything expensive when I had it up at my house in VA.... but I had to put a coat of wax on my grandma's audi. I guess the wax is a good wax for its price range. Quote: Originally Posted by Will'sBimmer Eagle One Nanowax | hmmm seems like theres a lot of OTC wax users on here! I do not mean that in a bad way! Make sure you dont forget to put the color of their car in their post because our waxes are color charged for certain colors. example.
