So, is it a Bimmer, or a Beamer/Beemer? Why? What's the difference? __________________ Real men know how to SEARCH! If you think about it, it really doesnt matter what you call it, just make sure you dont say it around another hardcore bimmer driver or else they might get offended. I used to think it was beemer for the longest time also until I was corrected. __________________ my new world | | | 05-31-2006, 08:06 PM | #6 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | There are other ways it can be used, like while driving in my bimmer i received a beamer from my g/f. Most of them don't even realize that BMW makes motorcycles, so if you try to explain the difference you'll have to have that conversation also. | | | 05-31-2006, 10:14 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Quote: Originally Posted by bullmand Bimmer is correct, but it really doesn't matter since 99.9% of the population are still going to say Beamer. I tried correcting a law professor about the bimmer/beemer distinction, and she didn't believe me. Many people prefer to remain ignorant it seems. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 05-31-2006, 10:39 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | i know its Bimmer for the car....but i say Beemer usually...Sounds cooler I think...but most people won't call you out on it cause most people dont know... __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 06-01-2006, 01:30 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Potomac, Maryland Posts: 230 | I hear "Beemer" all the time reffered to as the car. I cant help but shake my head in disgust . Stupid people these days.... though i must admit, i used to say "beemer" myself about BMW's, only because i knew a guy when i was young who bragged about getting his "beemer".... that idiot, made me look stupid infron of others. | | | 06-01-2006, 01:53 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Virginia Posts: 247 | Who decides this kind of stuff anyway? I usually just say BMW... but I actually think "BMV" ...a relic from having lived in Germany... __________________ Silver 98 318ti Standard trans, Sport Package: 16" Stock Wheels, Foglamps, Sunroof, Heated Leather Seats, Bilstein performance shocks, OEM Sach's clutch kit, Dunlop SP Sport A2 225/50/16 tires, Alpine CDA 7894, Dual Rockford Fosgate 12" subs, Rockford Fosgate Amp, Leather Armrest, Replaced M44 engine with only 40k on it! http://www.geocities.com/evalha/bmwsmaller.JPG | | | 06-01-2006, 02:24 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Berlin, Germany Posts: 258 | Bimmers are cars and Beamers are the motorcycles, but beamer is also used to refer to the cars (by idiots). __________________ | | | 06-03-2006, 03:10 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Virginia Posts: 368 | I'd have to say both are used not by idiots, but rather just ignorant newbies. As a long-time rider of BMW bikes (bought my first one in May of 1971) and driver of BMW cars (bought my first one in November of 1971) I cringe whenever I hear either goofy term of endearment. My cars are BMWs and my bikes are BMWs. I'd gag trying to say either bimmer or beemer.
