My left rear sub frame bushing has a rubber piece torn on the bottom. My right rear sub frame bushing has that same bottom rubber portion cracked. I'm guessing this might be contributing to excessive inside tire wear (in addition to the car being lowered) How critical is this? I want to replace them but would rather wait until my first DE of the new year. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-04-2012, 06:35 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | Time for solids! Haha. They are a PITA to put in. I'd put in poly trailing arm bushings while your at it. __________________ Im guessing im the youngest member on here with a S52 power'ed Ti at 16 years old! | | | 08-04-2012, 06:44 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by slow_ti Time for solids! I really need an M Coupe subframe but the labor will kill me. I probably will go back to stock when I replace them. I'm just concerned if it's safe to track the car this way. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-05-2012, 01:13 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | If those are IE greens there was a bad batch they sold which disintegrates like yours are. There is a thread about it in the bf.c z3 forum with pictures. I think IE was sending out replacements because they had acknowledged the issue and were working with people to resolve it. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 08-05-2012, 01:28 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri If those are IE greens there was a bad batch they sold which disintegrates like yours are. Problem is I'm going away Aug 13 and won' t be back until Aug 21 and heading to VIR Aug 24. I need to resolve what I am going to do fast. If I can track the car as is, I'll wait until I have more time to tie up the car. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-05-2012, 01:46 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Found the thread. I PM'd him to see if they'd replace it for free. I may just leave my car at the shop when I'm gone and hope that it's all together when I get back. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-08-2012, 04:38 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2010 Location: Nor Cal Posts: 281 | Steven IMO that looks pretty dangerous, seems like half an inch of play. __________________ -Alex | | | 08-08-2012, 05:19 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I have a pile of crumbs under my car now. They are getting replaced with race bushings and maybe RTABs if they need to be replaced. Funny, when I emailed Jeff Ireland his comment was "We did not have a period of defective mounts!" Yea, OK. I had them since 2005. Maybe they where bad, maybe just old? I'm not going to argue with him about it. I'll still buy from him. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-08-2012, 05:22 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2010 Location: Nor Cal Posts: 281 | I would suggest AKG __________________ -Alex | | | 08-08-2012, 05:39 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by Uber E30 I would suggest AKG | I know. Im not saying what type you should stick back there, just saying that AKG has a range of products that are reliable. __________________ -Alex | | | 08-08-2012, 10:22 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by Uber E30 Hah well AKG has all of those options. Fellow on the phone said that they had the bad batch quite a while ago which happened because the ingredients that go into the urethane weren't in the right ratio and that this caused premature failures. Also said that everything is OK now. Sounded legit to me, so I bought them, along with RTABs. | | | 08-09-2012, 02:07 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by 2Ti FWIW, I bought Ireland greens a couple of weeks ago, and I asked about the bad run of bushings. | Yea. I think I had the one of the bad batches although the owner said. Quote: We did not have a period of defective mounts! We have seen several cases over the last few years of where the urethane basically fell apart probably do the mixing proportions, cure or what ever. | He did offer to look at pictures. I wasn't going to argue the point. Mine where 7 years old. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-09-2012, 03:26 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | I need to replace mine too.
