I put new wheels on the 1998 ti today. Tire/wheel diameter is a bit larger and they're also a bit wider than the steel wheels/tires it came with when I bought it. When turning the steering wheel a lot (like when pulling into a parking spot) or when I hit a bump in the road, it sounds like there is a little tire rub ... faint and brief. Is this a major cause for concern? stock wheels & hubcaps new wheels | | | 12-25-2009, 10:59 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | Any tire rub is too much. In extreme cases it will end up marking up guards with small dents front where they'll be pulled out and wearing out the paint around the guards exposing the metal to the elements and rust. Wheels do look nice. What size are the rims (diameter, width, offset) and what size tires do you have on? | | | 12-25-2009, 11:32 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Those look like they are fitment for a 5 or 7 series... if that's the case, they are about 20 to 25mm different in offset. I have 17" 5 series rims on my car and had to both roll my fenders and go with a narrower tire ( 215x40x17 ) to eliminate rubbing... Also my car is lowered about 2" from stock height... (I used to have identical rims with 235x40x17's on my M3 that was stock height, and had very little rubbing issues... Didn't do anything about it on that car.) As for how much rubbing is too much, that is up to you... Running wider rims/tires will almost always cause some rubbing... I have pics and write-ups on fender rolling here... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. So, I don't know if I'd trust him. They certainly give the car a more aggressive look. It looked rather grandmotherly* with the wheel covers. * not that there's anything wrong with grandmothers! | | | 12-26-2009, 09:02 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2009 Location: Orange County, CA Posts: 2,019 | yeah bro love them wheels | | | 12-28-2009, 10:26 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2009 Location: Orange County, CA Posts: 2,019 | if u might consider trading for some RD RGS 18's lmk | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
