So among other things, I'm curious about my moon roof because it will open, but then I can't get it to close all the way, it won't seat properly. I was thinking maybe some simple plastic bit was broken. I haven't taken the assembly apart, only rolled it back and then manually cranked it back into place. Windows work just fine. Anyone have any experience in this before I start taking the assembly apart and exam each part...I'd like to know what I'm getting into before I do that. | | | 07-08-2009, 08:05 AM | #2 | Member Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: CT Posts: 88 | it sounds like it might be slipping track at the end when closing it! like maybe something is the way of the track, try take a keyboard cleaner kit and blowing the air through and around the track | | | 07-08-2009, 08:36 AM | #3 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | The plastic risers are known to break in the tracks and prevent the sunroof from closing completely. You should be able to manually crank it closed by removing the small interior panel where the switch is located on the headliner. There should be a sunroof wrench in your toolkit located in the cargo area by the jack. I looked at the track so see if there was slippage or a break in the track, didn't see one---so now it's onto replacement parts. I just was wondering how hard of a project I was undertaking so I could prep and price the repairs---wondering if anyone has done the repairs here before. | | | 08-01-2009, 10:20 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2009 Location: Long Beach, SoCal Posts: 373 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 The plastic risers are known to break in the tracks and prevent the sunroof from closing completely. You just press/hold the Sunroof button for 15 seconds.... | | | 08-27-2009, 01:38 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: College Park, MD Posts: 152 | So the sunroof won't close all the way, and it won't tilt. I think it might be the clips although I spoke to a BMW mechanic who told me otherwise. Honestly I don't think he's really seen or worked on a ti tho---being that he looked about 25...and didn't listen when I was talking to him. *sigh* The front clips look 'fine' but I think the back ones you have to actually disassemble the sunroof to get to. | | | 08-28-2009, 07:54 AM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Greece Posts: 2 | Bad Luck.... My Sunroof malfunctioned yesterday.... But not exactly the Sunroof ...but the cover above the sunroof that blocks the sun when it's closed... It's in the roof of the car...and it's just wont come out for any reason...it's hidden and I can't pull it... Any one god a solution for that problem? | | | 08-31-2009, 07:44 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: College Park, MD Posts: 152 | Ok, I found the problem was 1. the track in the cassette and joints needed grease+cleaning. 2. The gear mechanics were not working properly and needed to be cleaned and zero'd out. The roof still doesn't work perfectly it doesn't stop on exactly closed but (you can check and use the motor to close it) basically I think someone else (previous owner) got upset about it not working and instead of cleaning all the working parts and putting it back together, they took it apart and half assed it. which made things worse. | | | 08-31-2009, 07:55 PM | #10 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by Times Ok, I found the problem was 1. the track in the cassette and joints needed grease+cleaning. 2. Remove motor, manually close sunroof with tool supplied in tool compartment. While motor is removed, but still plugged in, operate motor to closed position. Re-install motor. All you need to do is sync the motor with the sunroof's position. Make sure you don't go past closed when you push the button otherwise the motor will think the sunroof is on the tilt stroke. I'll probably be like a week before I get back to it, in the meantime tho, I can use it and it works, just have to verify it is shut 100% so I don't get water if it rains. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
