Right now there is nothing hooked up, would this make my car run funny? | | | 12-27-2011, 05:35 AM | #4 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Yeah, it'll probably idle really rough if it even idled at all. How imperative is the CCV? Car drives ok even though I can feel it misfiring sometimes. Going to go ahead and buy the Sensor, but PO didn't have the CCV, so is it absolutely necessary? Maybe PO took it off for the turbo he put on the engine? | | | 12-27-2011, 05:41 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Texxas Posts: 110 | Where does the other part of the #13 hose run to? I see one side goes to the intake manifold, where does the other end go? RELOEM just shows it going behind the engine. Not sure how these parts apply to a turbo setup, just found this little bit of info in a wiki: "Should the intake manifold's pressure be higher than that of the crankcase (which can happen in a turbocharged engine, or under certain conditions, such as an intake backfire), the PCV valve closes to prevent reversal of the exhausted air back into the crankcase again." They're two separate hoses connected with heatshrink. The air hose obviously goes from the valve cover to the Crank Case Vent valve and the coolant hose if I'm not mistaken goes from the coolant "Y" fitting on the back of the head to the lower intake manifold or throttle body. Before you hook these hoses up, make sure you're not pumping coolant into an air way or vice versa. BTW, ANY air leak downstream of the MAF, no matter how slight, will cause your car to misfire and idle rough. Says that with the turbo system he installed there doesnt need to be a Crank Case valve.... Hate to buy a part that isn't necessary, but I can't see how putting a turbo on would make the part unnecessary... | | | 12-27-2011, 10:07 PM | #12 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | I don't know what was done to your car by the previous owner, all I can do is tell you how it's supposed to be. Sounds like the previous owner gave up on his project and sold you a basket case. Similar thing happened to my aunt. Her CRX had a cracked radiator and exhaust manifold. My uncle tried to fix it over 10 years ago and left it unfinished. She asked if I would fix it, so I went over there, popped the hood only to find that half of the engine had been disassembled and my uncle took the parts home with him 10 years ago! Chances of him still having all of the parts and knowing what goes where are pretty slim. That's why you never want to take on someone else's project. When people bring their cars to me and I find wires spliced, missing parts and half assed repairs, I tell them to take their car somewhere else. | | | 12-27-2011, 11:23 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Texxas Posts: 110 | Pretty much what happened. But silly me only saw all the work that was put into it and the expensive parts he put on and saw a deal. But its pretty hard to polish a turd, so getting this thing running right is going to be (and has been) a little bit of a nightmare. About to just give up and go back to my old e30. Even with it falling apart its still more dependable than this boston green basket case I've got here. | | | 12-27-2011, 11:37 PM | #14 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Well hang in there man. I know it could be frustrating trying to sort out someone else's work, but if you get this thing running right, it'll be very rewarding. 318ti's are great little cars and believe me when I say they can be just as fun as e30's. Like you and many others, I too came from the e30 world and I've found the 318ti to be the perfect balance between style and performance realoem.com, pelicanparts.com, getbmwparts.com and the knowledge base section of this forum are all great resources for these cars. Also, if you haven't already done so, pick up a Bentley and Haynes manual. Best wishes. -Jess | | | 12-27-2011, 11:53 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Texxas Posts: 110 | Bentley on the way, but haynes? I always thought of them as bentleys slow second cousin. Then again I think I remember reading a post by you or another senior member stating that some diagrams are better in the haynes, I guess they're cheap enough I could just pick up one and stop complaining | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
