Default header

I did a quick search and did not turn up anything. I think my stock manifold is cracked. Checking with BMW all but gave me a nosebleed from the price.

Anybody know of a decent header for a decent price? Google keeps sending me back to an Ebay seller.

The old saying about getting what you pay for applies.. though I could buy it and have a friend of mind lay down a new weld bead on all the connections if I needed to before installing it

For the headers on ebay, i heard the welds are garbage, but thats just "talk". i have an extra header in my moms garage but the pre-cat end of the exhaust was cut by the junkyard i got the engine from.

I'd just find a junked M44 header, maybe paint it before putting it on. The stock piece is good enough.

Question for others: is the M44 header the same across all models, or is the ti header specific?

Not sure about other models, but there are differences just on the ti depending on model year. Some have the port for the exhaust check valve plumbing and some don't. I'm not sure when the switch happened.

I bought Exhaust Header from ebay but I haven't install yet. My question is if I installed header on my 318ti when I go to emission test is it gonna be past for test?

If you have the M44 it may or may not work. Do you have this stuff on your engine? Specifically parts 15 and 17. If you do and the header you bought doesn't have the hole for that plumbing then I will probably cause the car to run poorly and throw a CEL. There may be some software trickery to get around that, but I'm not aware of it.

Doesn't the stock header output to two outlets?

the stock manifold is a "tri y" system.. two exhaust ports Y down into one and then those two Y down into a single outlet. I know, I just ripped mine out this evening before it got too dark to do more.

Thanks to Hugo, I have a used manifold. Unfortunately for me, mine is an early 96 and does not have the EGR port, so I had to block it off with a large bolt tapped into the manifold.

I do have to say this.. while not especially hard, getting the manifold off of our cars is quite an experience. I wound up removing all but one stud out of the head (that one broke) and I had to cut all for bolts that hold the top of the manifold to the bottom. I will eventually do it again when I add a real header to the car... but as a stop gap measure, it works
