Default Hazard Lights are bizerks!

We recently purchased a '93 318is... The hazard lights would go off when we hit bumps, so we would click the switch and they would go off. I pulled the switch and there were 2 small metal clips that were flopping around loose inside so I removed them, and it seem to fix the problem. Then on the way out of town, the hazard lights started flashing again and the switch would not turn them off, even when disconnecting the switch. We pulled the relay out and that (of course) turned them off. When we plugged it back in they still went of until we unplugged the fuse. It did it again today. We also lost power to our brake lights (although it could be unrelated-we're going to replace the circuit switch?) Any ideas on what to check out?

Thanks!

The hazard light switch has an active low (negative pulse) output over a .5 BR/BL (brown/blue) wire. Could you have pinched that wire and shorted it to ground somewhere between the switch and the blinker relay?

After you disconnect the switch, you can probably measure the wire's resistance or voltage with respect to ground to check if it is shorted.

Does your 'ti have a crash/alarm module between the switch and the blinker relay? That might be another possibility.
