Question Best headlight upgrade?

Hello, group!

We all know how weak our original equipment headlights are. I am looking for a reasonably priced upgrade, but the only headlight upgrade articles I see are from 2006-08! Surely there must be something new on the market....

What I have been running are 9005 lamps in both the high-beam socket and the low-beam socket. I get more light further down the road on lows, and no one flashes me, so it must be aimed OK. Whether it is my age, or the age of the bulbs, I am not getting enough light to drive safely at night at anything faster than a crawl.

I have read a little bit about GE Nighthawk bulbs and Sylvania/OSRAM Silverstars, but how much brighter are they, really? Are HIR lamps for real? They sound perfect, and apparently the technology works, but some say the products from Philips are no better than stock. What is involved in a HID conversion, and doesn't that require different housings/lenses as well to avoid blinding oncoming drivers?

What is the best setup for, say, less than $100? For less than $200? For more?

Thanks for the help!

Dino

I think a new set of DJ Auto or Depo light housings with HIDs from DDM are the way to go. The glass lenses won't yellow and the HIDs really produce a bright light. Price on them is reasonable as well. I think I got mine for around $350 about 6 years ago.

DJ Auto / Depo / ZKW

Put a 35w or 55w | 4300k or 5k HID

also, do the shroud mod with the cut off if you are keeping the stock projector or do a upgraded one from the retrofit source.
