Hey I'm from PA, Hanover to be exact. I have two BMW's, a 1995 318ti and a 1994 325i. I really like my 318ti a lot and it has ds2 m3 wheels and is lowered on springs. It is a 1995 and is a manual. I also have another G250 tranny that supposedly has 56k and a brand new Luk clutch. My 1994 325i needs a transmission and is an automatic. My 318ti is starting to run pretty rough and I'd like to swap it with the motor in the 325i. I don;t really have access to a engine lift, is there any easy trick to swapping them like removing the subframe or something? I have spent months researching parts and what all is compatible, but this is my first engine swap and I could use some helpful direction. maybe some links to some write ups would be sweet! thanks. Hope to start becoming more active on the forum soon! | | | 06-16-2012, 06:47 AM | #2 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2011 Location: Hanover, PA Posts: 7 | new* not off to a good start haha | | | 06-16-2012, 06:50 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Ft Defiance, AZ Posts: 686 | i think somebody did swap without a lift, right in his driveway. search around a little bit and you'll be surprised how much info you can find. good luck and welcome to the org. __________________ 1999 BMW 318ti 2005 MINI Cooper S | | | 06-16-2012, 06:53 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | BluBimma is the swap guru. He did the full drop the subframe from each car and bolted it into the other. Did it in one evening for both cars, IIRC... Harbor freight sells them for less than 200 bucks and you can find them on craigslist for less than a hundred. I think I got mine for 75 bucks. Paid more for the engine stand than the engine hoist. Here's one near you for 60 bucks: http://york.craigslist.org/tls/3080768542.html Do the job right, sell it when you're done.
