Seeking to fine the sweet spot for hot tire pressure for the tires and the TI combination. David, it was great to see you and Lisa at the AutoX session. Let me know if you ever want to come down and help me put her back together. Spending this weekend with Michael rebuilding my E38's suspension and the same on his M5. I've got 17" DS1s, thinking of the 225/45 R17 Toyo R1Rs, or the 255/40 R17 RA1s. New to Autocross so I may just stick with the less expensive R1Rs. Are you looking for more contact? | | | 07-31-2016, 09:09 PM | #71 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Current thoughts and experience on Track day/Autox Tires Actually the set of Toyos I acquired for a great price were 205/45-16 which dropped my car another 3/4" but most importantly dropped my top speed by prolly 10-mph minimum. The diameter does change with that size. Doesn't matter so much for AutoX, but for the longer straights on the track events, I was loosing seconds. Example: on the freeway, my speedo would read 70mph. GPS would show 62 mph. ThunderHill has longer straight runs. I'll see if it makes a difference in my times. I just hope it's not a bizzilion degrees next weekend. Meaning 100+ degrees. Good luck with them. The RE-71r's have been working very well for us but we seem to be getting some funny wear on the center section of the tire. The outside edge of the center solid bar of the tire is wearing unevenly. almost like a beveled shape from low on the outside edge to normal on the inside edge. The rest of the tire is wearing pretty much evenly (considering 4 degrees camber and 1 degree toe out on each front wheel) Have not really been able to find out anything about it. I am thinking of taking the wheels to the shop and have them switch the tires to the opposite sides to even out the wear. Let us know how they perform. | | | 08-01-2016, 03:50 PM | #73 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Will do and thanks for your and your Son's feedback. I am running about 2.75 degrees of camber and really still learning and experimenting with tire pressures. There has been great feedback on Facebook as well, that I would love to incorporate into this thread, I just need to confirm permission first before copying it over. I have a Z3 I am interested in setting up for AutoX, but for the moment, my TI does double duty and the setup is essentially the same, except for tire pressures. I am interested in seeing if I should drop the camber to 1.5 degrees and realign. It was suggested I might go with 0 degrees of Toe from where I am at now. I have plenty of brake capacity, just looking for a optimum balanced configuration in this first year of having track fun. BTW, there is a $70 rebate for Bridgestone tires for a few more weeks in case anyone is interested. Thanks again! Are you driving to and from track events on the RE-71Rs? Round trip for me is 200 miles or so each weekend, I'm debating running street tires in transit and save the tires for the event. Thanks!
