I used Testors model paint and a really fine paint brush. It was actually my dads paint. He didn't have light blue or purple so I custom mixed those by adding red and white to dark blue. Came out perfect. The "M" looks white in the pics, but it's really chrome/silver. I'm suprised more people haven't done it. Ive seen people paint the calipers all sorts of wacky colors. I've even seen the ///M logo painted one solid color, but never the true motorsport colors Stock single piston calipers only look good in black or silver IMO. You can't really see the ///M with the style 5's installed, but you can't see my polished oil pan either. It's just one of those things that brings a smile to my face when I take the wheel off or crawl under the car Kinda like a little reminder that "Jesse was here" | | | 09-26-2009, 05:28 AM | #476 | That's not Millpoint Blue Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: BNA Posts: 3,161 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 a little reminder that "Jesse was here" | Your car is just one big, steaming pile of... Broke out the rotozip and shaved about 2mm off of the calipers. Fits fine now, no rubbing. Gotta touch up the two spots that required grinding: | | | 09-27-2009, 12:06 AM | #478 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Wow, that's surprising considering the 5s are ET20. I would have thought there would be plenty of clearance. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 09-27-2009, 04:21 AM | #479 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri Wow, that's surprising considering the 5s are ET20. I would have thought there would be plenty of clearance. | Well here's the deal, the caliper slides back and forth on the caliper carrier. So when you apply the brakes, the piston pushes on the inner pad which pulls the caliper inward to draw the outer pad inward against the rotor. If I'm not mistaken, as the pads wear the calipers should move inward more, but right now, with new pads, my calipers sit really far outward. It's crazy, I have less than 1mm of clearance right now between the caliper and spokes. If that thing vibrates even a little bit, it's gonna rub. I might end up shaving more off of the caliper, we'll see how it goes once the brakes are bled. | | | 09-27-2009, 04:41 AM | #480 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Yeah, I know, but what I mean is that on a stock M3 with ET41 DSIIs, Contours, etc. which have the wheels 20mm closer how is this not an issue? Perhaps it is in the design of the 5? The wheel center stays in place relative to a DSII but the barrel is pushed out further which gives it that nice lip and effectively changes the offset. I think I answered my own question... __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
