Anyways....the primary reason for pump failure is the valve on the front of the head that allows air to enter the exhaust. If this valve stays open, moisture gets into the pump and does bad things. My valve works perfectly on my car, so the air pump I have for sale should be perfect.
Anytime you turbo anything or work on it to make it faster it seems it is nothing but problems. Anymore I just replace stuff when broke and thats it. My buddy had a little import shop and I learned first hand that if you fix up your car all it does is cause problems.

The CEL triggers are mostly emissions related. I check my codes every thousand miles or so, or when I'm filling up with gas sometimes. I know what codes to expect, so it's easy to tell if something new pops up. It's really not a big deal to me. I also have an airbag light and transmission light on.

Okay, now that we've spun appreciably off topic I have another question about the CEL. If it's on does our engine run in "default mode" or something where I lose performance and/or gas mileage and/or something else?

No, CEL doesn't trigger limp mode on the Bosch DME.

my cel told me misfire and cat codes. I pulled the cats just to find out it was the boot from the coil to the plug. CEL's help some people. If i didnt have it my car would still be misfiring because all of the rubber boots were in good condition and I thought they worked fine. But it WAS the problem

My old bronco's CEL didnt work. The distributor module went bad and I spent 3 days replacing parts cause I had no scan tools, and no way to tell what was up.

You'll want to check the valve too. #15 in the attached picture. The easiest way to do this is to remove the rubber hose the goes to the pump when the car is HOT. If you feel exhaust coming OUT the valve, you'll need to replace it. With no vacuum on the valve, it is closed.
