On a driving holiday (France) away from home (London) and the car has developed a random noise when i am going between 40-60mph. Its not present below 40 or above 60.... It appears to be coming from below the drivers feet - exactly... So i looked below the car and i have attached 2 pics (taken with Blackberry so apologies for the quality). Taken below the drivers door - RHD model. You can see something hanging down. I can reach in it seems to be attached to the exhaust i think. I can press it around and push it up. Then when i drive the call the noise seems to disappear temporaily. I had a look on realoem and the part i think it is, is 18301436483 - Vibration absorber So can you advise - does this sound right - and do i need to go to a garage or would it be ok for a few hundred miles yet, or is there a better temp fix you can advise... plus longer term fix Cheers S | | | 08-25-2011, 11:06 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | you can drive the car like that, it's just going to rattle but it won't do any damage | | | 08-26-2011, 07:54 AM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: London Posts: 20 | ok thanks But can you answer some of my other questions? | | | 08-26-2011, 09:19 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by seanski ok thanks But can you answer some of my other questions? | Grab a piece of rubber and drill a hole in it. Take out the bolt and install the rubber making a tighter fit and most likely no more noise. Careful if it needs to be heat rated rubber. If heat rated maybe stack with washers to take up the slack and tighten it up so it doesn't rattle. Just some thoughts Good luck. | | | 08-26-2011, 07:35 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by seanski ok thanks But can you answer some of my other questions? | well the best long-term fix would be to just buy a new one | | | 08-26-2011, 09:53 PM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: London Posts: 20 | Great advice Brendan but if I did that with everything that went wrong on the car i would be more skint than i am now!!! I guess the thing is, do i need the part....can the car function without it, and/or is the part 'fixable'. I know i can order a new one but @ $56 according to realoem i want to be sure its required. I guess i would like to hear from others that have had an issue with the same part and what they have done/got away with. Cheers for the insight anyway!
