No but seriously it takes about 3-4 weeks to leak a quart, and every time it is parked a small spot is left on the ground that was right under the crossmember area. The car had been flipped and slid before my dad and I bought and repaired it so I'm not sure if that cracked something or what. It seems to leak more from the bottom half of the engine so I think it might be the oil pan gasket or oil pan itself. If not that then I have heard something about the seal on the oil filter housing. Any suggestions? | | | 05-03-2006, 07:55 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: England, UK Posts: 1,288 | degrease as much of the engine as possible to get it clean so it'll be easier to spot? __________________ 1995 BMW 316i Cosmos Black Mods: • Magnex Cat-Back Exhaust • Smoked Corner Lights + Repeators • M3 17" Wheels • De-Baffled Air Box • AC HandBrake Handle and Gear Knob • DEPO Euro Epsiloids + Predator Chronium Rings • Chrome Interior bits •IE Poly-Urethane RSFMs • Kenwood Power Series Audio • Powder Coated e36 325 Front Callipers • Sports Seats | | | 05-03-2006, 08:03 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: San Antonio, Texas Posts: 62 | Slow oil leak Quote: Originally Posted by 318tiNC My car only leaks about 1 quart every 3 days which isn't too bad. I also got the chance to degrease most of the engine while in the process. __________________ '96 Active, Boston Green Future mods:Front lipspoiler, cold air intake by Otto Racing, Hartge Rear Wing spoiler, Smoke Grey Birdseye maple wood trim kit. | | | 05-03-2006, 08:20 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Mebane, NC Posts: 23 | Great, thanks for the help. Come to think of it I also need to replace the plastic spiral piece that you slide the oil filter onto because i broke it tightening down too hard. I was an idiot and thought the copper washer that came with the kit went down in that hole for some reason. Then the next time I changed the oil the bright idea came that it was for the oil drain plug. Oh I felt like a retard. | | | 05-03-2006, 08:37 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Chicago Posts: 102 | i just replaced the oil filter housing gasket, make sure u get the 2 o-rings that go w/ it. Mine were very dry rotted and brittle so, so just another idea... | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
