It's not like someone will believe that it is an "M" IMHO I think Debadging is like the person is unshamed of their car. You should be proud of what you got, and plus don't you want the guy in the "M" car to know he just got whooped by a 318? | | | 02-25-2005, 11:33 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | i took off my 318ti with monofiliment fishing line. I kept the Roundels those are needed, but the trim markings don't hold anything for me. it's a e36/5 and that what it is. when I swap it will still be blank on the tail. just with an extra pipe under the apron. | | | 02-26-2005, 12:25 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Cola. SC Posts: 344 | I'm taking the badge off for aesthetics.. NOT to replace it with an "M3" badge... so please don't assume. I've been pondering going "naked" for a while now and think I really want to do it. I'm still keeping the roundels yes... just want the rear to be even, you know? Once you get the badge off, how do you take the residual adhesive off (without scratching)? | | | 02-26-2005, 02:08 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | i used a bumper sticker remover spray about 7 times before all traces were gone. | | | 02-26-2005, 08:19 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Tulsa/Ft Worth Posts: 102 | I actually had no intention to debadge my Ti, someone did it for me about 3 years ago. I still have no clue who it was or what they wanted with a 318Ti badge, but its gone. Can't really help you with your question, but I doubt they took their time taking it off my car. i imagine they just ripped it off, but there were no marks left behind. It was and still is nice and clean. __________________ uhm...yeah...Vrooom | | | 02-26-2005, 08:27 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Tyler, TX Posts: 1,022 | Use a hair dryer to heat up the glue on the emblem, then use fishing line to get it off (that way it doesn't scratch). Then to get the residue use Goo Gone, just scrub a little bit and it will come right off. | | | 02-26-2005, 02:46 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: MD/VA/DC Posts: 834 | BUY tar remover i used it on a WRX wooked great | | | 02-26-2005, 05:19 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Michigan Posts: 169 | Hey Blue, Goo Gone works real well just use a soft cloth maybe let soak a little bit,try some clay bar to clean paint I claybar my Ti at least twice a year makes that alpine white smooth as silk. vwt3 __________________ 95ti Alpine White, K&N cone filter, Fullcoilovers by GroundControl Koni adjustable,Eibach springs. Some people order a car without a badge to help hide how little they spent on the car; others, to help hide how much. I removed the badge to make the car easier to clean and wax. I think the car could use some more wax. | | | 03-03-2005, 11:38 PM | #12 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Las Vegas Posts: 15 | I used a combination of techniques: gently heat with a hair dryer, slide a plastic credit card under edge to loosen, clean up residual sticky with bug and tar remover. __________________ '98 avus blue/active/cali-top/uuc short shift/koni coil-overs/sirius satelite | | | 07-23-2015, 07:53 AM | #13 | Member Join Date: Dec 2013 Location: South San Francisco,Calif Posts: 49 | Does anyone have an idea how to remove the inside panel from the hatchback so that I can replace the badge? There are at least two holders that push into the hatchback that I have no idea how to remove. Any help appreciated. | | | 07-23-2015, 08:58 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: Santa Rosa, CA Posts: 407 | Quote: Originally Posted by dsamuel565 Does anyone have an idea how to remove the inside panel from the hatchback so that I can replace the badge? Any help appreciated. | If you're talking about the BMW emblem/roundel, it simply pops off from the outside. Using an old credit card to pry if off works well. When you are reinstalling, be sure to get new grommets to hold in the two posts. There are video tutorials and such on Youtube that go into more detail if needed __________________ 1997 318ti 5-speed Moreagrün 1996 318ti auto Hellrot (retired) | | | 07-23-2015, 07:05 PM | #15 | Member Join Date: Dec 2013 Location: South San Francisco,Calif Posts: 49 | Coyoteh Thanks Coyteh. I will try that. Seems easier than trying to remove panel. Appreciate.
