Thumbs down craigslist buyers

this is the email exchange between me and someone who emailed me about my body kit, his are in bold

Is the body kit still for sale

I've got someone coming to look at it tomorrow, I can let you know if he doesn't buy it.

Brendan

(other guy never shows up and doesn't reply to phone calls and emails)

The other guy never showed up, I'm still waiting to hear back from him but let me know when you'd like to come check it out.

Brendan

Would it fit a 96 328is

Yes, it will fit any E36 coupe or convertible.

Okay

So, do you want to buy it? We can set up a time for you to come take a look at it if you are.

Brendan

I like it but I'm located in ny

that was his last message, I haven't replied yet

I realize this is barely deserving of it's own thread but WTF?? this guy doesn't seem to have any concept of buying stuff online. Would I be an asshole if I just stopped responding to him? seems like an awful lot of trouble for $400

Ask for a $100 deposit, plus an additional $100 for time and gas, so $500 total and meet him halfway. Or... Have him make all shipping arrangements, ie, have UPS come to your house or work and pick it up. Yeah craigslist attracts a lot of DB's.

I once bought a BDI TV stand from a guy in Utah. I had been looking for this particular stand for several years, but didn't want to spend a thousand bucks. It became discontinued and I lost hope. One day I found one on ebay, but the guy had it listed as local pickup only in BF Egypt. I emailed the guy and asked if he'd be willing to disassemble it, box it up and leave it on his doorstep for UPS to pick it up if I made all arrangements and sent him the boxes. He agreed, so I went on BDI's website, downloaded the specifications for the Cielo 9329 tv stand, built 3 custom boxes, sent the guy the empty boxes with packing instructions, a couple rolls of tape, fragile stickers and a ziplock bag for the hardware. Once the guy had everything packed, he weighed each box on his bathroom scale and emailed me. Then I went on UPS's website purchased shipping labels and arranged for them to pick it up at his house. A week later, I had my stand. Sucker was heavy! Each sheet of glass was over 1/2" thick, total weight was almost 200lbs. Spent 550 for the stand and another 150 on materials and shipping, but it was worth it to me because I really wanted it but waited so long it became discontinued.

Holy crap! That's a lot of money and effort for a TV stand! Got a photo of that baby?

I think the $100 deposit and $100 gas/time money sounds reasonable ... or at the very least, the extra hundred up front.

I should start doubling the price of anything I want to sell on CL because I always get 10 emails immediately offering me half of what my asking price is. Then when I decline the offer, the person is insulted? How does that make sense?

to be fair to craigslist, I don't think that body kit design is really going to attract the best and brightest the BMW community has to offer

I think I'm just going to stop replying to that guy, anyone who replies to an email message like that with "Okay" is probably not worth dealing with
