Recently, the brake lining light went on, so i replaced the front and rear pads they were both pretty bad. To my dismay, when i was on the rear left wheel the wear sensor and all signs of wiring were missing from that wheel! Obviously, the light is still on on the dash. I figure i'll have to get a new wear sensor and what not. Has anyone else had their wear sensor disappear, and what did you do about it? thanx | | | 10-28-2004, 06:45 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | You do know there is only one sensor in the front and one in the rear? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-28-2004, 08:42 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 290 | The sensors are on the front left and the right rear, not on every wheel. You need a new sensor up front to make the light go off. Once a sensor is triggered, it stays triggered, it's no good anymore. You can actually see how it gets crushed to complete the circuit. | | | 10-29-2004, 01:37 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Charlotte, NC Posts: 120 | well why is the warning light on on the dash? | | | 10-29-2004, 02:03 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Is it the brake wear warning or brake fluid? I think there are two different warning lights. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-29-2004, 03:39 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Charlotte, NC Posts: 120 | it is definately the warning light for lining wear. | | | 10-29-2004, 07:27 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2003 Location: Wilmington, NC Posts: 641 | kinda confusing....does the sensor not just have to be replaced? __________________ 18'' Ace Wheels • Pirelli P7000 SS Tires • Bosal Brospeed Exhaust • B&M Short Throw Kit • H&R Sport Springs • Euro Clears • cat delete • Rogue Engineering Clutch Stop • Modded Airbox • blacked out kidney grilles • Suede Headliner/A Pillars S52 CONVERSION UNDERWAY | | | 10-29-2004, 07:38 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 290 | Yes! The sensor has to be replaced! If your light is still on, then it's not plugged in right, or the rear sensor has been triggered, and IT needs replacing. | | | 10-29-2004, 07:40 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2003 Location: Wilmington, NC Posts: 641 | yea thats what I thought had to be done... oh and btw, whats up dan (motorsport). __________________ 18'' Ace Wheels • Pirelli P7000 SS Tires • Bosal Brospeed Exhaust • B&M Short Throw Kit • H&R Sport Springs • Euro Clears • cat delete • Rogue Engineering Clutch Stop • Modded Airbox • blacked out kidney grilles • Suede Headliner/A Pillars S52 CONVERSION UNDERWAY | | | 10-29-2004, 09:10 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Charlotte, NC Posts: 120 | thanks CHRIS/schussey now everyone knows my secret identity, yea im gonna get the wear sensor soon. Should i go ahead and do front and rear sense i dont have a scan tool to see which has been triggered | | | 10-29-2004, 09:21 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 290 | You can look at the sensor to see if it has been triggered. When the brake pad gets really thin, this allows the sensor to be permanently crushed between the rotor and the pad backing plate, completing an electrical circuit inside the sensor probe. That's why simply replacing the pads won't turn off the light. The sensor's probe is made of copper, or some metal softer than the rotor, so it won't scar the rotor. My front sensor was triggered, and you could tell where it had been rubbing on the rotor. At $21 apiece, I'd find out which one it was before buying 2 of them. | | | 11-22-2004, 05:11 PM | #12 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Posts: 3 | My ABS light is on. Posts: 127 | you guys are killing me. The sensor wire is just that, a piece of wire. When the pad gets to thin it wears though the sensor and cuts the wire, thus leaving an open circuit not completing one. There are a lot of reasons the abs light could be on. Get it scanned. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
