I don't know what kind of mats these are. They came with the car. They fit perfectly. They attach to the floor with the newer BMW style velcro mounts, not the hooks of the past. The backing is a dense foam material. The velcro attachents on the back of the mats are big round circles, the sice of an orange, where as the velcro attached to the floor of the car are much smaller, like the size of a silver dollar. If that description fits factory BMW mats, then I can only suppose they are Z3 mats.

My factory mats fit with some weird screwy things (that I still have, but never used) that thread into the carpeting (which is why I never used them).

Well, I guess I'll have to catch up with a roadster sometime and try those.

FYI, the seller of that first extinguisher, power-carshop on Ebay is not being entirely honest. As far as I know, BMW never sold a Halon fire extinguisher. If that unit did contain Halon – which it doesn't – the German seller would be violating European law which prohibited the production, distribution and use of Halon in all its member states at the end of 2003.

What those guys are selling, after removing the BMW mark, is identical with a Gloria F1G dry powder extinguisher that I last bought at a building supply store for around 25 euros ($30). (See below.) I would buy and send you another rather than see you pay good money to those clowns.

I understand there is a big difference after an engine compartment fire extinguished with Halon versus one extinguished with dry powder. Halon requires much less cleaning up. I would, however, scrub off dry powder if it was that or losing the car.

I have to wonder about just what the seller might send you seeing how he baldly claims to sell a Halon extinguisher BMW does not offer (they only sell dry powder) and that would be illegal to sell in the EU if they did.

I found an online shop that sells the Gloria F1G extinguisher I mentioned for about $50 – including shipping to North America. That's what, about half what you would pay the ebay seller? Click here then the first link on the page, Pulverloescher, tragbar, and then scroll down to the F1G unit. I don't know anything about them, the site is largely in German and they don't appear to take credit cards but I can probably help you out there. They also say they offer a quantity discount if you guys want to do a group order. (It looks like about 7% off for 5 units and 17% off for 10.)

Halon may have been sold by BMW up to 2003 (the year it was deemed harmful and banned).

I'd be interested in a couple of those, but I would honestly rather have Halon, as the dry chemical does more damage than simply providing a nasty clean-up mess... I assume that Halon is not available at all based on what you posted earlier...

Halon is still available in most racer supply places, but is not the correct shape for the BMW bracket. I was contemplating getting one while in Switzerland; however the compressed canister cannot be shipped in the cargo bay, as it could explode (and I don't want to be on the plane if that happens...).

FYI in the US its only illegal to manufacture Halon. You can still buy it leagally for use in high hazard situations, IE cars and planes.

We sell a system at our race shop that uses a C02 cartridge to pressurise an onboard system that sprays a variant of Coldfire. Its a liquid and the system can be recharged by you with a refill kit. Its a built-in onboard system so it uses a pull handle to set it off. Not as messy as dry chem, less hazard than Halon.

i can tell you no matter what you pick there is nothing like the relief when the fire goes OUT!
