Default Fire Extinguisher

Anyone ever put one of these on?
Ron Stygar says he got the part# from John Firestone. I want to put one in; not sure if bracket is still available.

I have one. The thing is it's a European option and shipping pressurized chemicals across borders is not easy. You cannot buy it from a US dealer. You cannot buy it in Europe and ship it here easily. Somehow there are a few within our borders that I cannot explain, but suffice to say check your favorite store (?eBay?) for potential leads. That's where I got mine.

I just want the bracket; I can get an extinguisher here. Is the bracket available?

I bought the extinguisher and bracket from an ebay vendor. He had the extinguisher and I gave him the part number for the bracket and he got it for me. I think since it's only the bracket, you should be able to get it through BMW or any parts vendor. give greg at SEAM an email. I think his handle is mss318ti. He's the one working on the new supercharger you guys are all excited about.

I guess, if packing it one to a box and slapping on a UN number is hard (UN 1044 as I recall).

Sometimes people will believe the craziest things until they actually try what they are talking about. I'm guilty of that sometimes. Or perhaps they were just fending off your query with an answer you would believe. I was surprised to hear that UPS has no problems shipping unexploded airbags. The consistent answer a friend received is they weren't even hazardous material!

FYI, the seller of that first extinguisher, power-carshop on Ebay is not being entirely honest. As far as I know, BMW never sold a Halon fire extinguisher. If that unit did contain Halon – which it doesn't – the German seller would be violating European law which prohibited the production, distribution and use of Halon in all its member states at the end of 2003.

What those guys are selling, after removing the BMW mark, is identical with a Gloria F1G dry powder extinguisher that I last bought at a building supply store for around 25 euros ($30). (See below.) I would buy and send you another rather than see you pay good money to those clowns.

I already sent payment, but I did use Amex to pay for it. Should I contact him and ask him about this?

I understand there is a big difference after an engine compartment fire extinguished with Halon versus one extinguished with dry powder. Halon requires much less cleaning up. I would, however, scrub off dry powder if it was that or losing the car.

I have to wonder about just what the seller might send you seeing how he baldly claims to sell a Halon extinguisher BMW does not offer (they only sell dry powder) and that would be illegal to sell in the EU if they did.

I found an online shop that sells the Gloria F1G extinguisher I mentioned for about $50 – including shipping to North America. That's what, about half what you would pay the ebay seller? Click here then the first link on the page, Pulverloescher, tragbar, and then scroll down to the F1G unit. I don't know anything about them, the site is largely in German and they don't appear to take credit cards but I can probably help you out there. They also say they offer a quantity discount if you guys want to do a group order. (It looks like about 7% off for 5 units and 17% off for 10.)

It looks good. You got it at a fair price for the BMW version so I am not sure why the guy had to claim it used Halon. Thanks for the update!

Those pics have me wondering. What's that fourth lever on the front of the seat for?
