I finally just named mine Shorty I've owned two e28s over the last 7 years and was able to name both of them immediately. The first was a burgundy 528e that I named The Red Barron since it was red and German. My 524td (turbo diesel) was named Rudolph after Rudolph Diesel, creator of the diesel engine. Easy, quick, done. However, naming my Avusblau 98 M-sport proved to be a challenge. I just couldn't come up with a good name. I like to pick names that have some meaning, like how I came upon the car, some experience I had with it early on, or something from history. With the ti I just kept coming up blank. I finally decided on "Shorty" since it is a compact and very literally a shorter version of every other e36. Additionally, part of my buying decision had to do with the economy the ti offers, so something diminutive like Shorty. About the time I had started calling it Shorty enough for the name to stick, my 5 year old son came up with the name "Rare Blue" since I had told him--and I had read somewhere--that Avusblau was a more rare color for these cars. My wife chasised me for not adopting the name my first born creatively and thoughtfully suggested, but he ultimately liked Shorty too and thus I got his approval. Anyhow, I thought I'd share a bit of the story of how Shorty got his name. Craig |
