I fell in love with Johnboys setup, but he has the sedan dash. I am now dead-set in putting the gauges in the center stack, however there is clearly not space for them. My question is: is there any way to do a "head unit delete" of sorts and run the speakers directly off my ipod? That way i can put the Boost, Oil and water temp gauges in a place that looks sexy and racy whilst still having some form of entertainment.....any help or suggestions would be awesome __________________ Eurotary 313ti-Rx coming soon.....soon is a relative term | | | 02-21-2012, 01:21 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | Put an m3 dash in. __________________ Im guessing im the youngest member on here with a S52 power'ed Ti at 16 years old! | | | 02-21-2012, 01:27 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: SoFla Posts: 482 | well thats one way to go...id like to keep the ti specific dash tho, its unique and im used to it...moreso wanted to see if anyone could let me know how to wire the speakers like an ipod dock. thanks for the input tho __________________ Eurotary 313ti-Rx coming soon.....soon is a relative term | | | 02-21-2012, 01:42 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | Haha I wouldn't know how to do that. EXP: ipod -> amp -> speakers very easy setup. 3.5mm Phone jack to RCA cable is about $5.99 at radioshack and about $2 on ebay. then get an RCA extension cable. You could mess around with AUX adjusters to put in between the Ipod and the Amp, but it is not needed since the iphone/ipod does not push out that much power but pushes out enough that the amp will be loud. that is just me though. i don't see a problem with it. should work fine. __________________ Check out our new website! https://soltechsolutionsllc.com/ Green Your Decor with the Aspect! I'll get on that as soon as the car has power. I'll do a step by step when that time comes __________________ Eurotary 313ti-Rx coming soon.....soon is a relative term | | | 02-23-2012, 07:48 AM | #11 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | The only issue I can think of is that many amps require a remote wire that sends a signal telling them when to turn on. Without that signal, or if somehow bypassed, the amp may remain on full time and cause the battery to drain. It is a good idea though, looking forward to seeing what you come up with. | | | 02-23-2012, 08:20 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: SoFla Posts: 482 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 The only issue I can think of is that many amps require a remote wire that sends a signal telling them when to turn on. The switch might be a good idea. if you forget your iPod and your amp is turned on, then it might give back a lot of feedback. if you can turn your amp off when you do not have your iPod, then it might be a huge bonus for your ears. In my car, i have the 3.5mm headphone jack in the center console where the handbrake is. you can very easily run the wire to the back of that console. then you can leave the iPod in that rear console or the cup holder area. 2nd option would be to grab a iPod holder (like a GPS style windowshield mount) and mount it on your window shield. run the wires behind your dash and then you can always see the iPod. I just use ipod, but honestly you could use anything. haha. Iphone or cellphone might be the best. __________________ Check out our new website! https://soltechsolutionsllc.com/ Green Your Decor with the Aspect! First, do the classic car guy thing. Ya know the one. Guy loves the looks of the factory chromed out dash unit but can't live with only having am so mounts a second radio in the glove box. Here it wouldn't be a second radio but the radio only moved. Second option and what I would do. There's a small amount of space between the lighter and heater controls. There's a little storage area there. You'll need to build yourself a custom mounting panel but if done correctly would look almost like it was ment to be there. In fact the storage area to me looks like a goof. | | | 12-02-2012, 08:27 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: SoFla Posts: 482 | Long time since I've updated this thread, I decided to go with a plx dm100 in my cluster and a nexus 7 tablet for a headunit.
