We'll see if they get back to me, I requested a quote for 5 sets. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 03-22-2006, 08:31 PM | #35 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: washington Posts: 29 | i sure you can have the pistons that came in the motor shaved down if you cant find any,you usally want forged pistons but if you set it up right you can some time get away with regular pistions. | | | 03-23-2006, 03:30 AM | #36 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Richmond Hill, GA Posts: 1,231 | sometimes when you shave down pistons it makes them weaker. I'd rather go with something other than shaving the piston. | | | 03-23-2006, 05:07 AM | #37 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: washington Posts: 29 | your probaly right, but if the factory pistons are forged than its no big deal a a little shaved off the top won't hurt that much.i used to have a vw bug that me and my dad installed a 2.3 liter mustang turbo motor in it and we got the motor for real cheap in the junk yard, cause it needed pistion rings, and we just put in cheap ones not even forged and the compression was like 8.5:1 and we ran 12-13 pounds of boost and never had a problem except melting the spark plugs once in awhile, retarded timing and water injection fixed that, but that thing would eat up v-8s all the time to about 65 mph.granted its alot lighter it think as long as you have a boost gauge, vac, oil gauge and keep synthetic oil in it and dont beat it to much.your ok. just a thought. | | | 03-23-2006, 09:31 AM | #38 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Me coming from the honda world I am used to the idea of swapping parts around and ****. Perhaps one of the I6 motors uses the same lenght rods as the m44/m42 (but they're stronger?) Or how about using I6 pistons which have a longer stroke (but same bore) This would lower the cr when being placed in an engine with a shorter stroke. I am going to the bank tommorow to see about a loan for a 318ti. If I get it I'm gonna go balls to the wall crazy with the research on this thing. I6 swaps are so cliche and boring. SOMEONE needs to get crazy on the research of these runt motors. It's like honda's d-series. Nobody likes these llittle runt motors so they swap them out for B-series. making d-series piss cheap. I picked up a d-series swap for 50 bucks. What I wanna know is, if there's any aftermarket cams for these motors. Raise the cr up and put some cams in there. 8000rpm redline 4.44 automatic rear end FTW!!!!! __________________ 1994 honda civic cx hatchback honda tranny (transmission, not transvestites) guru | | | 03-31-2006, 06:19 AM | #44 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | only interesting thing like that i've seen is the guy in south africa that posted on bf.c. search should pull up the llnk, good 12 pages or so to read on that buildup. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 03-31-2006, 03:01 PM | #45 | doesn't care about you.
