Does this come standard with the Cali top or was this an option? Does anyone have this on their Cali top ti? Thanks ahead for the feedback. -Jeff | | | 07-03-2007, 07:53 PM | #2 | Moderator Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: SoCal318ti Posts: 1,574 | I have it my TI and I bought my car new back in 98', it is definately a stock feature for the California top. | | | 07-03-2007, 08:08 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Seattle, WA Posts: 402 | My 1997 doesn't have the deflector. I think it was MY 1998+. I did read about a retrofit kit here though. Edit: That pic is from a 1998+ too, seeing it has back headrests. __________________ 1997 332ti - Don't even ask. 2006 330i - ZPP/ZSP/ZCW/6sp/Nav/BT/H&R Sport 2011 E92 M3 | | | 07-03-2007, 08:29 PM | #4 | Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: CA Posts: 43 | oh, so it was standard for 98... man should have looked for a 98 those seem to have a lot more extras. The slipstream makes a HUGE difference in cruising comfort at speed. If you ever disassemble for maintenance it is well worth it. The '99 also came with a one touch open motor but you have to hold it in to close (safety). __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 08-15-2014, 05:22 AM | #6 | Member Join Date: Sep 2013 Location: Northern VA Posts: 37 | Sorry for the resurrection but for those with the slipstream, does it help on highway speeds of 70+ when the top is opened wihtout shaking violently? Currently I only use the cali top in city driving because it's too turbulent which causes the top to shake and sounds like it'll rip right off any second on highways.... | | | 08-15-2014, 06:48 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | I was doing 80+ and it wasn't ear popping turbulent. I reached up and folded the windscreen and it was a big difference. Check the yards for folding tops (Cali tops) I found a working one for $42 at a pick n pull. No motor tho... All good now tho... __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! This one was in Toledo, OH. A 96 top I saw at pick n pull online was $42, but no deflector or motor. I just looked at the pic and saw it was a Cali. Just gotta ask folks who are looking too... __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org!
