What tire size should i get on a 17x8 wheels? Recommended tire size is 215/45/17 and i'm thinking i want a little more rubber on the tire and so i figured 225/45/17. Thoughts on this? __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 03-07-2006, 05:59 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Great White North! Posts: 701 | Keith, I would recommend 225/45/17 or 235/40/ 17 for two reasons; contact patch and rim protection (I run 225/40/18 for the street and for the track 235/40/17). Although with 215/45/17 you might not have to roll the rear quarter lip now that your dropping the ride height. Btw, did you decide on any wheels? They don't rub and I don't have rolled fenders. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 03-07-2006, 06:06 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Great White North! The OZ wheel is a 40mm offset. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 03-07-2006, 07:34 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Great White North! Different tires have different tread and section widths although they are the same size; ex: 225/40/18 Dunlop Sp Sport 9000 has a 9.1" section width. A Conti Sport Contact 2 has a 8.9" section width for the same size tire. Tirerack has all this info when you look at the tire specs. I belive the BFs are 8.9 for 225/45/17. It also depends on the ride height (springs) you install. I got a good deal on the set, but really like how the tires feel.(no rubbing for me) Next time I plan to get some 235/40/17, only for a wider look. | | | 03-14-2006, 03:27 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | I have 215/40/17 on an 8.5 inch wide rime with a 42 mm offset and 12mm spacers. With a 2.5 inch drop there was no rubbing, but after going to 3.1 I had to roll both front and rear fenders. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
