I was looking at a car and the same thing happened...the RPMs just went straight up and the car didn't want to move. I'll be in NorCal this weekend. __________________ 97 Jet Black 318ti Sport. When it was in gear, it was almost the same thing, as if the car was in neutral. It would only engage when the pedal was almost all the way up. My friend told me that it was most likely the clutch. Have you noticed anything funny with the clutch recently (besides your incident today, such as having a high engagement point)? __________________ 97 Jet Black 318ti Sport. Not so stock anymore!.... I could probably get you the money by tomorrow, but I'd rather pay in person to avoid the fees and such. Send me your contact info and I'll give you a call tomorrow. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 10-04-2007, 06:31 AM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: norcal Posts: 12 | yeah the clutch was making a rattling noise everytime i let it go. but i havn't drove it for a whole month. just started it up today to take it for a spin. 30 minutes later, and $100 tow fees, i'm just frustrated and done with this car. don't want to deal with it anymore. could be just a simple fix as a clutch, but i don't want the buyer to think that it's just the clutch. if it is great, but i want the buyer to be award that it could be the tranny aswell. so expect the worst, tranny. | | | 10-04-2007, 02:35 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Definately sounds like a throw-out bearing issue if it were rattling. I just had that kind of issue with my crx, but it was the actual clutch disc that was messed up, but a throw-out bearing will cause the same problems. Good luck with the sale. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-04-2007, 03:01 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | Post up the VIN number. We can tell you by the VIN if it is a club sport or not. I'd also hope that the revs didn't go up to 8k RPM. That's about 1500 RPM higher than it should go. | | | 10-04-2007, 03:08 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | It wouldnt be able to go up to 8k unless the clutch was still engaged as though he dropped it into a lower gear, IE. 2nd instead of 4th. The engine would be electronically limited to the rev limiter. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-04-2007, 03:13 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | should still have the rev limiter in place unless it has aftermarket software. Funny about the mirrors though maybe someone did not like that they were smaller than stock, OR it had an accident. Either way this is a good deal and happy it stays w/ a forum member. Do I smell a swap coming on? __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 10-04-2007, 03:27 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | Quote: Originally Posted by Bluebimma It wouldnt be able to go up to 8k unless the clutch was still engaged as though he dropped it into a lower gear, IE. 2nd instead of 4th. Definitely a good deal just to get the m-technic body parts. If it really is a club sport get it back to OE specs and it will be worth a lot more money. | | | 10-04-2007, 04:36 PM | #12 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: norcal Posts: 12 | here's the vin if anyone is interested wbacg5321sam53492. if it's the throw out bearing than great, someone is getting a great deal. even if it's not, i still think that someone is getting a great deal. with the lsd, the clubsport interior and the m body parts, should be worth the $1500 i'm asking for. jesse says that he's gonna get back to me sometime today cause he has first dibbs. | | | 10-04-2007, 04:42 PM | #13 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: norcal Posts: 12 | i was in 2nd all the way, and the rpm just shot up from 2500 to something like 5,6, or even 7k rpm, before i could react and disengage the clutch. | | | 10-04-2007, 05:06 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: Marion, IA Posts: 388 | Yes, that is most likely a club sport. Assuming that VIN belongs to that car. However, it is the lowest serial number club sport we have seen, so it would be possible that it wasn't a club sport that someone made look like one, but that is doubtfull. I don't know why someone would take the M3 mirrors off, unless they needed to be replaced.
