Posts: 3,156 | I see one or two around, and we have our fair share of rust here too. I e got a bit on my left quarter (probably from rolling the lip) and I haven’t driven in winter since I took delivery in April of 1998. | | | 07-18-2020, 02:17 AM | #92 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | I wish I could have kept this clean as it was a southern car, but it’s my first car this high school and college. I will say it’s been my most versatile. Even today people are surprised at how much it fits. I will for sure never get rid of it, but not sure if I want to keep s52. I can fit my entire drum kit inside easily. Fold the seats and take out the tray and keep a spare VW Rabbit back there. | | | 10-12-2020, 04:28 AM | #94 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | Quote: Originally Posted by J!m Oh yeah! Slight update - Replaced the original fuel pump with another OEM VDO unit, came in a continental box FWIW and it got rid of my CEL 1112. It will sometimes flash the CEL under WOT near redline, but I've read others had that issue with TRM tunes. It could also be the knock sensors. Motor still likes to drip some oil and burn it, but a full teardown won't be happening anytime soon. Over winter I'll replace the rubber fuel lines as time has eaten at them. I've driven it maybe 400 miles this year? But it's been one of the best learning projects ever. | | | 10-12-2020, 04:17 PM | #95 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | Oh, yeah. They like to eat oil. Good news about the fuel pump clearing that code. Do you have the ordering info (or was it from the dealer?) on that exact pump? | | | 10-12-2020, 08:46 PM | #97 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! It will come in handy if I, or another member, needs it. | | | 10-20-2020, 12:06 AM | #98 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | Quote: Originally Posted by J!m Sweet; thanks for posting that. In the past I've used Gates Barricade fuel injection hose as I didn't like the conti stuff sold by FCP. Posts: 3,156 | I just use the factory lines. Replace with dealer parts, usually from Bimmer Bum. | | | 03-25-2021, 04:33 AM | #101 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | | | | 01-11-2023, 03:28 AM | #102 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | Well another year done. Drove less than 400 miles in 2022 but it’s still around.
