Also assembled the engine and tranny together and ready for the compression test tomorrow. That's it for tonight. Got to get some sleep. Been wrenching on the 944 S2 on jack stands, and I just got tired of working on my back! I am feeling lazy this week, so the intake may have to wait for another 2 weeks. | | | 09-18-2009, 11:37 AM | #35 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Slowly making progress here. The transmission, drive shaft and exhaust are in. The intake manifold was finished last night. I am surprised there was not a lot of vacuum lines used on this engine. Just the brake booster, fuel damper and vapor canister purge line, that was it. Very simple compared to the Porsche 944 S2. I just need to get the radiator pressure tested and it will be done this weekend, yaaaay! My father has a lift in his garage. That is high on my priority when I have my own place. | | | 09-19-2009, 12:02 PM | #37 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Having a lift is really nice. Bad news on the radiator pressure test. It has a crack behind the reservoir so I will need a new one. Now i know why the engine was trashed. It overheated pretty bad and the head warped. Once I a m done, i will open up the original engine and explore the problems. | | | 09-19-2009, 07:13 PM | #38 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | It's running! It's running! Well, I fired it up today just to test run the used engine. It ran after 4 starts after the fuel lines were primed. I shut it off after1 minute of idling since there is no coolant. No check engine light too! New radiator and slave cylinder and it's ready to go! | | | 09-19-2009, 10:26 PM | #39 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | nice, it's good that all that hard work paid off, I've seen people just give up halfway through something like that | | | 09-19-2009, 11:41 PM | #40 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Thanks. How can I give up on a $65 car plus sweat on towing? | | | 09-21-2009, 11:26 PM | #41 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Put some JB weld on the cracked radiator and installed it to test the engine longer. Still leaks a little but was able to get it up to temp then shut it down. Idle is so smooth and I can't wait to drive it. There is a red circle light on the instrument panel that was lit. Since the car has no manual, anybody familiar with 318ti tell me what the light was for. Here is a pic. That was fast! So the pads are worn? I will check the brakes anyway since the rotors are completely rusted from sitting outside for months. | | | 09-26-2009, 04:45 PM | #44 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Non-running now running! It's ready to go back on the road.!! The only issue now is the radio code. How do you guys get the code? Let me know. Thanks. A few pics of the finished product.
