Do you think 18's are too big for our little compacts? __________________ | | | 04-28-2013, 03:56 AM | #332 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by Platanos Do you think 18's are too big for our little compacts? | Having been there; done that- yes. __________________ 1995 318ti Base - Cosmosschwarz/Sandgrau R.I.P. 1997 318ti Active - Alpinweiß III/Sandgrau 2013 328i Coupe - Le Mans Blau | | | 04-28-2013, 04:12 AM | #333 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | +1 I think that 17's are big enough. I saw a ti with 18's once and it looked odd. __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 04-28-2013, 04:18 AM | #334 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: SoFla Posts: 482 | i really dig my style 67 18s. but then again i need to get the fenders stretched to fit them __________________ Eurotary 313ti-Rx coming soon.....soon is a relative term | | | 04-28-2013, 04:34 AM | #335 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2011 Location: Vancouver, B.C. It would have been impossible to put lowering springs on it without rolling the fenders or adding a flare kit. Even with a correct offset, an 18" wheel is just too big of a diameter for what these cars were designed to run, not to mention what it does to your acceleration. __________________ 1995 318ti Base - Cosmosschwarz/Sandgrau R.I.P. 1997 318ti Active - Alpinweiß III/Sandgrau 2013 328i Coupe - Le Mans Blau | | | 04-28-2013, 04:44 AM | #337 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | @ Romak- That top photo actually looks OK, but wheels on the bottom make the ride height just look a little off to me. Are those stock springs in both photos? __________________ 1995 318ti Base - Cosmosschwarz/Sandgrau R.I.P. 1997 318ti Active - Alpinweiß III/Sandgrau 2013 328i Coupe - Le Mans Blau | | | 04-28-2013, 05:00 AM | #338 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: SoFla Posts: 482 | Quote: Originally Posted by zoner My first ti had Style 67's on it from the PO- they rubbed and they just made the ride height look funky... and that was with slightly stretched tires (which is dangerous, IMO). Mild roll on both front and rear fenders __________________ -Alex 1995 Bmw 318ti - Cordoba rot Last edited by Romak; 04-28-2013 at 05:06 AM. | | | 04-28-2013, 05:06 AM | #340 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | I'm about to pull the trigger on these....any input? My fenders are rolled and I don't mind a very slight stretch. What do you guys think? 18x9 et32 18x9.5 et38 __________________ | | | 04-28-2013, 05:21 AM | #341 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | I don't think those look too bad, Fernando, but they are stuffed in the wheel well pretty good. When I was running Style 67's (18x8 et47; 18x9 et26) I didn't have any fender roll, had a slight stretch on the tire, and would rub with anyone in the back seat, hard dips, potholes, hard cornering. I like getting on it in the twisties too much to run a wheel that will rub and I didn't want to modify the body. If you roll and stretch, you should be OK, although that 9.5" is wiiide! __________________ 1995 318ti Base - Cosmosschwarz/Sandgrau R.I.P. 1997 318ti Active - Alpinweiß III/Sandgrau 2013 328i Coupe - Le Mans Blau | | | 04-28-2013, 05:40 PM | #342 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | Quote: Originally Posted by zoner I don't think those look too bad, Fernando, but they are stuffed in the wheel well pretty good. I hope I can tuck them in the fender as he did. __________________ | | | 04-28-2013, 06:15 PM | #343 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: dorchester Posts: 700 | Iv run 18's on stock set up- albeit M Sport, for the last 10+ years an never had any rubbing or other issues.. __________________ 18" AC Schnitzer alloys.
