My car does unlock both doors and hatch when I disarm. So I why can't I do the same thing with this roundel latch? Then after I disarm the alarm, I go to the rear and pop the hatch manually.

So if I understand you correctly, you want to wire the rear, Roundel, flip switch so that it unlocks the car when you press it. Like leaving a house key underneath the flower pot? (The key gets you inside but doesn't let you move the house.)

I must have left planet earth, and entered some altered reality, where English has no meaning.

Imagine this......removing the push button trunk release, and put this roundel style trunk release in it's place. End of story, no hidden meaning, no parallel universe.

Well, I was watching an episode of the BBC TV series "Life on Mars" last night which starts as follows:
My name is Sam Tyler. I had an accident [in 2006], and I woke up in 1973. Am I mad, in a coma, or back in time? Whatever's happened, it's like I've landed on a different planet. Now, maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home.
Perhaps that had something to do with it.

Now I understand what you are asking. From what I have seen, pressing the flippy, rear roundel only closes a switch. You still need to add a solenoid or actuator to take that electrical switch closure and mechanically pull the trunk latch. Sorry, I got confused and originally parsed your question as follows.

Quote:
My car does unlock both doors and hatch when I disarm.
Pressing my remote-control disarm-button unlocks the car.

Quote:
So I why can't I do the same thing with this roundel latch?
Why can't I have the rear roundel button also unlock the car?

Quote:
Then after I disarm the alarm, I go to the rear and pop the hatch manually.
After first unlocking the car and now disarming the alarm, I want to push a rear hatch button and pop the hatch.

Didn't our Ipswichian colleague mention this complication at the very start?

I think the flippy, rear roundel is a neat project and might have added it had I seen his nice write-up a couple years ago. But now that I have a remote + center-console trunk release, I would get very little chance to press it!

One more question before I leave this thread in my rear view mirror. How about connecting an arm from the roundel lever to the locking mechanism that the stock hatch button uses?
