I actually traded my old AT Italias for a set of 17" E90 rims plus cash. one of the rims has a crack behind the face that goes all the way around. the rim is basically in two pieces and just held together by the tire

I got my new steering wheel today, already had it in within a few hours of getting it still have to figure out the horn wiring

For example, a 225/55/16 tire will be close to the same overall diameter as say a 235/40/17. Not only does the larger sidewall tire tend to flex more when cornering, it also absorbs more of the road imperfections. If you hit a pothole with a 40 series tire, you're gonna feel it a lot more than you would with a 55 or 60 series tire. IDK, maybe it's just me.
I get what you are saying. The ti is out of town with my wife at the moment, so I can't check the tire size, but I am thinking that the DS1 and tire are a bit taller overall than the steelie and tire combo. I remember doing research to determine what was the, "stock" tire size for the DS1 mounted on a '95 M3, and I went with that.

I could see that being the case. Especially if you're running 45 series tires which I think is what came stock on DSI's. I compared my 215/40/17 to my old 16" style18's which had 225/55/16 tires and the 17" tire was actually SMALLER in diameter. But that was a 40 series tire.

Speaking of tires and bad roads...
The state road department has decided to work on a 3-4 mile stretch of I-70 between my house and downtown Denver. They did the rotomill (sp) treatment both East and West bound. The problem being where the milling starts and stops. Seems as if they went down 3-5 inches in all lanes.
Up until Monday morning I knew what lanes to be in to avoid the massive speed bumps where the milling stopped. Monday morning I found another stretch was milled on top of an overpass. Not enough time to slow from my normal 65+ MPH. When I hit the end of the milling it sounded like an explosion! The front end of my car made a huge metallic bang as my glove box flew open. The garage door opener flew off of my sun visor into the rear seat.
I hate these crappy roads in Colorado...it's a complete joke.
I think my car is as low as I will go until I move to Florida. Then I plan on replacing the H&R's with coilovers.
End of rant...who wants pie?

the road that I've been taking to work for the past few years has had construction on it too, there's about 5 sections of concrete that have been cut out and filled with gravel, I've had to start taking a slightly longer route to work for the past couple weeks

why can't all roads just be smooth?

Put on a little baby antenna since someone decided they needed my other one more than me. Looking forward to new paint - the clearcoat is getting pretty bad.

Wait until you get here before you do coilovers! A lot of Florida roads aren't so great either! Down here in the south end of the state it seems low bidders or somebody's brother, mother or cousin gets the job to fix them-badly!

And we had some Biblical-grade rain here yesterday and I checked the trunk- not a drop...

I did condition the rubber trunk seal last time, so maybe that did it? I doubt it...

If I find a problem, I will post what it was.

The DS1 spare that I have came with the original Michelin tire and it was a 235/40.

In the 'What did I do to my car today (or Saturday)' department:

- Replaced front LCAB's with solid rubber
- Flushed black sludge (literally) out of the Power Steering system, replaced a leaky reservoir to pump hose, replaced fluid reservoir
- replaced driveshaft

Power steering is much better; finally eliminated all driveshaft vibration; shout out to Ed at BimmerBum for the excellent service and the ability to get me LCAB's from FL to CA in two days!

pulled my door panel off to find out what it was that I heard falling inside my door when I got to work this morning. turns out the rear guide rails snapped the spot welds on it's mounting tab. new one's on its way from Tischer so I guess I'll be getting some more seat time in the E46
