Any pics of the engine bay, what did you do with the secondary air pump and down streams o2s? __________________ 96ti M52 swap soon to come. I just omitted the secondary air pump because it goes where the battery is in the ti. The downstream o2 sensors are still hooked up, but not sure if they do anything at this time. I’m still learning the order of operations on these m52’s. Right now I’m focusing on the fact that it’s not shifting into 4th gear. There is a pic of the engine bay toward the end of the first page. | | | 04-23-2019, 02:15 PM | #33 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: TAMARAC, Florida Posts: 191 | Cool. I just picked up a 99 alpine white with a blown head. I'm swapping out everything from my 328i in it. Prepping the 328 for my l99 swap. __________________ 96ti M52 swap soon to come. When I got everything up and running I took it for a test drive and it wouldn’t shift into fourth gear. It seemed to be shifting late and kind of hard. The craziest thing is that if I put it in one, it would shift through 1, 2, and three. I racked my brain for weeks trying to figure out what happened. I scanned the Internet relentlessly. I found one thread about a guy with the same symptoms that mine had. He ended up changing the transmission computer and it fixed it. I didn’t think it could be that simple, but I changed it out, and the damn thing is just perfect now. Moral of the story: do not plug-in or unplug a transmission computer with the battery connected. It can/will fry the computer. Thanks for your support and your knowledge base. | | | 08-20-2019, 08:24 PM | #36 | Member Join Date: Mar 2019 Location: Middle TN Posts: 45 | Well, I traded into a 96 5-speed ti with a 3.45 lsd (and bad motor/sweet rattle-can paint color change from hellrot to bleck...). So now the ultimate burnout machine will become the ultimate (tail of the)dragon slayer. I understand that one can still use the automatic motor harness with the 5-speed. I’ve gotten the diff, trans, and driveshaft out. Pedals, and cylinders both master and slave next. What else do I need out of this car before I pull it out of the shop? Y’all need anything off of it? | | | 09-08-2019, 10:02 PM | #37 | Member Join Date: Mar 2019 Location: Middle TN Posts: 45 | Today I drove a 5-speed m52b28 powered ti and it was mine. Finished the swap today and maidened it without issues. Still have to put the interior back together. Pretty sweet combo. Thanks for the information. Saved my butt a couple times. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
