Just swapped in leather sport seats from an M3. Used my frame and base, swapped over the cushions. Was actually easier than I had anticipated. Easier than finding donor seats in good shape, lol. I took tons of pics in case anyone wanted to see the process. | | | 07-10-2016, 02:17 PM | #2 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2016 Location: Atlanta Posts: 8 | Interested in seeing the process. I'm thinking Vader or sport seats to upgrade the Base seats, I'd like a bit more bolster. Sport seats seem hard to find. Will any e30 or e36 seat bolt directly in? | | | 08-06-2016, 05:28 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Jul 2015 Location: Santa Rosa, CA Posts: 62 | Curious about direct options as well. I dont like the ones i have.spent a lot of effort keeping ,ysslf in the seat | | | 08-06-2016, 10:14 AM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2015 Location: Herndon, Va Posts: 22 | Ok. I'll compile it all and write up a how-to. Note: these were NOT a direct bolt-in, but so far as I know (did quite a bit of asking around with E36 nuts) any E36 seat will work. The luxury/comfort (read: base level) seats will be very like the stock Ti seats, as they have minimal bolstering. Also note, the swap doesn't seem to differ if the donor seats are manual or powered. Mine were power with heat (not wired in yet). This build required full donor seats and swapping the bases from ours onto the new seats from the donor. It's not TOO difficult, but does require a little mechanical intuition and a solid afternoon. Teaser pic for now... | | | 08-06-2016, 03:19 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Monterey, CA Posts: 770 | I'm pretty sure that any e36 seat is a direct bolt-in. | | | 08-06-2016, 04:13 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2015 Location: Herndon, Va Posts: 22 | Mostly true, dahamler, except they need to be from a coupe so you can still flip the seats forward and have access to the rear. Unless you don't care about that I was finding it impossible to source a pair of coupe leather seats in any sort of decent shape. Whereas sedan seats were considerably easier to find in decent shape. (I'm assuming because of numbers produced). | | | 12-03-2018, 05:45 AM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2018 Location: USA Posts: 24 | Hey RACERetteX, Do you have more information on how to do this? A couple important questions: Do I use the manual base I currently have if the donor seats are powered? Or do I need to wire up power? I've found some convertible leather seats that might be an upgrade from the cloth ones I've got now (though not the same color :/ ) and I'm trying to decide if I want to try this. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
