Anybody with experience removing the tape?? Heat gun, hair dryer, or ?? Would like to avoid chemicals if possible. (Maybe some goo-gone to remove any remaining residue if necessary) Any advice would be appreciated. thanks, max | | | 04-30-2012, 03:06 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Heat gun to remove the tape, Goo-Gone to remove any residue left behind. __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. That said, I never cared for the E36s that do not have black there.. just too jarring to the design of the car | | | 05-08-2012, 03:47 PM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2011 Location: Canada- West Posts: 29 | Tape removed successfully. I had rented a fender roller that came with a heat gun for warming up the paint - so it was a natural to use it. Plus, my little steamer is rather weak. The first side came off pretty easy. Maybe 60% of the glue residue came off with the tape. On the other side, probably 90% of the glue reside stayed. Arrgh. Lots of letting the Goo-Gone soak in helped get the crud off. But, since mine is black, I will leave it paint showing. IMO, the gloss black paint blends with the shine of the glass better than the flat black does. (although my old black tape may have been a step beyond flat LOL) Will post a photo when i get a chance to take some. max | | | 05-12-2012, 02:45 AM | #7 | Member Join Date: Aug 2010 Location: Denver, Co Posts: 49 | Interesting. My Ti does not have the black tape. It is a 95 helrot clubsport. I wonder if the PO removed it or it came without it stock? Anyone know if the tape came on 100% of the 318Tis? Nice steering wheel by the way. | | | 05-12-2012, 02:52 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | My 95 Active came without tape, but painted matte black. Yoda and I removed the tape off of his 97 Alaska Blue ti, and he really liked it with out the tape. I have since done a black CF vinyl wrap on the b-pillar just for fun. Looks decent to me... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion.
