Last fall I purchased a 1996 318ti, and fell in love with the car immediately. I am replacing the shift knob for two reasons, the leather is tearing off and the knob swivels a good 20 degrees, which is worsening the leather wear. I purchased a replacement shift knob, in the original leather style, from Bavauto. It came only with the plastic shift-pic and no parts. Also, there were no instructions. For the life of me I cant find a decent guide with pics and required parts for replacing the shift knob. Thanks! | | | 12-09-2010, 09:53 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Is it a factory part? Then it just press it on. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-09-2010, 10:11 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 4 | Yes, I believe it is the factory part. | | | 12-09-2010, 10:17 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Then it just slides onto the shift lever. You may need to pound it on there. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-10-2010, 03:45 AM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Houston Posts: 14 | Book to look into... I think you are just promoting a book. | | | 12-10-2010, 04:41 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | That book is very helpful. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-10-2010, 06:13 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Pull straight up on the shift knob, take new shift knob, push straight down. Installed. All of the articles in that book can be found on pelicanparts.com. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 12-10-2010, 11:38 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri Pull straight up on the shift knob | this, but point it away from your face | | | 12-11-2010, 02:34 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Merritt Island, FL Posts: 351 | __________________ Alpine Weiß 1995 318ti M50tu mostly stock, chip'd 413, AFE Intake. e36 M3 front brakes, e30 M3 rear calipers. e28 3.25 LSD + e30 axles.
