Default custom intake question

i was wondering if it is possible to see preformance increase if i did a custom intake setup. what i want to do is do a 2 1/2 or 3in piping down behind the fog light and top that off with a KnN cone filter.
i know there are set up ready to buy but i have limited cash and want to have some fun with my ti...
will i see preformance increace??
